The Unknown Brewing Company Buzzed City

The Unknown Brewing Company Buzzed City 4.6% ABV brewed here locally in Charlotte, North Carolina is a dry-hopped Pale Ale. Buzzed City pours a darker yellow with a one and a half finger white head that somewhat steadily fades away. You get orange notes in the aroma with sharp bitterness and non the first sip it’s orange notes then I it fades in to a sharp bitterness that carries all the way to back of your mouth with citrusy notes with a medium mouthfeel. Buzzed City comes to a bitter citrus finish and an aftertaste that is bitter with lighter orange. The Unknown Brewing company Buzzed City is good but the sharpness that comes in the middle isn’t as good as the rest and that brings this Pale Ale to a B-. Buzzed City has a nice full on orange flavor that is nice and citrusy the rest knocks it down a bit, but I think you should Gove The Unknown Brewing Company Buzzed City a try. Please stay safe and enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Armor Artis Brewing Sospeso Coffee Blonde Ale

Went out to a new local Butcher shop purchase a few items such as Armor Artis Brewing Sospeso Coffee Blonde Ale, 6.6% ABV. This is coffee blonde is brewed not far from me down in Fort Mill, South Carolina, dry-hopped with Ethiopian coffee beans from Sospeso Coffee Roasted in Waxhaw, North Carolina. Sospeso pours a brown copper color with a two finger bright sightly rocky white head that stedily fades with slightly roasted sweet coffee and coca aromas. Taste is lightly roasted with some coffee and a faint coca note and it has a very light and very faint bitter note that shows up in the back of the mouth with a meduim mouthfeel that finish with a bitter roasted note and an aftertaste that is roasted with coffee and slight hint of coca with a slight linger of bitterness. Now I have had better Coffee Blonde ales than Armor Artis Brewing Sospeso Coffee Blonde Ale. It not much of a blonde ale by the looks of it. I give Armor Artis Brewing Sospeso Coffee Blonde Ale a D+. It has a strange bitterness that isn’t a coffee like bitterness and it to much like a brown al with coffee. I would not try Armor Artis Brewing Sospeso Coffee Blonde Ale, instead I would have Wooden Robot Brewing Good Morning Vietnam, that is turly blonde and has a more subtle but great cooffe flavor that intertwines well with the blonde. Please stay safe and enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Olde Mecklenburg Brewery 704 Hazy Wheat Ale

A relativity Beer, Olde Mecklenburg Brewery 704 Hazy Wheat Ale, brewed locally here in Charlotte, North Carolina from one of the oldest craft breweries in Charlotte. It’s brewed with Loral, Mandarin, and Bavaria hops. 704 pours a light somewhat hazy yellow color with a three finger semi-quick fading head with a fruity (mandarin, faint lemon, and orange) aroma and with a light/faint wheat notes. Taste is crisp with a nice fruitiness of orange, mandarin and very light lemon notes, light wheat beer qualities, some light bitterness toward the back of the mouth that comes in and goes away rather quickly. 704 has a fruity bitter finish that is light on the bitterness, light mouthfeel, and has a nice but light bitter fruity aftertaste. Olde Mecklenburg Brewery 704 Hazy Wheat Ale is a good beer but the light little bitter notes give it a B+. It has very light wheat qualities to it with more of a fruity bitterness that makes it different enough and somewhat interesting. I would recommend that you try Olde Mecklenburg Brewery 704 Hazy Wheat Ale! Please stay safe and enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Throwback Thursday: Ayinger Weizen-Bock

Originally posted November 18th, 2011

Guten Tag bierliebhabler! This is an old-world beer from the great beer land of Germany, Aying Germany, by Brauerei Aying. This brewery is older than the United States. WOW, that’s pretty old! These are two different styles of beers in one delicious brew, Weizen (wheat beer) and bock beer. Bock beer is a strong lager, usually german in nature, and has a ram (male sheep/goat) associated with it, but I couldn’t tell you why as of yet. This weizen-bock pours a cloudy/hazy darkish yellow color like most weizens. It has a big thick bright white head that seems like its never leaving. That is like most german wheat beers I have had. Please be patient while pouring this beauty. It’s worth the wait, trust me, people. This Ayinger has a big crisp Weizen taste with a little bock bite in the end and all the wheaty flavor stays with you for a massively great after taste. MMM GOOD! Now I only found this Ayinger in a big 1 pint 0.9 oz bottle, no 12oz six-packs. I don’t know why Ayinger does not put out six-packs of beer as far as I know, because they’re Dopplebock, Celebrator (any beer with ATOR on the end is a Dopplebock) comes in a four-pack. Awe but I want two more when I buy that and I’d like six weizen-bocks too. Well buy it anyway, it is such an awesome old world brew, and praises it to all your friends and family. I love this one ALOT and you should too. If you ever get to Germany and have this one I’d soo love to hear about it and where that good time was had. Thank you! Prost! Please drink responsibly!

Throwback Thursday: Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Weizen

Originally posted on January 15th, 2012.

When you think of Germany and it’s the beer you think of Munich and Bavaria. But this a Rauchbier, which is a smoked beer style in the Bamberg area of Germany. Schlenkerla is the original smoke beer. This is the Weizen (wheat) variety of their smoke beer. This beer is 5.2% abv and is dark amber with a thick foamy beige head. The color of this beer is a bbq like color, dark crispy slightly burnt edges of the meat. Schlenkerla has a smokey scent to it that really smells like fresh bbq being cooked. This is a very pleasant smell. Yes, there is a very faint wheat smell but it is overpowered by the smokey scent. This smokey brew here has a bbq taste that makes you think of ribs pulled pork and other good bbq staples. Yes, there is a wheat taste there but you really have search hard for it. This beer has a good smokey aftertaste that is very wonderful and tasty nothing like a heavy thick smoked porter. I really do think this would go great with a bbq brisket or a slab of ribs. This smokey guy is not heavy tasting nor does it stick to your stomach/ribs, no its semi-light drinkable and real good. Yes, they do brew three other types of smoke beer. You should try this one, it is surprisingly good. Cheers! Please drink responsibly!

Golden Road Brewing Mango Cart Mango Wheat Ale

Golden Road Brewing Mango Cart Mango Wheat Ale, 4.0% ABV first in a series inspired by Los Angeles fruit cart vendors, brewed with 2-row, wheat malts, and Bravo hops. Mango Cart pours a bight yellow with a one finger fizzy white head that quickly fades away with aromas of sweet ripe tropical mango. The flavor is filled with fresh ripe mango sweetness with some light tartness, and a light to medium mouthfeel that has a nice tropical mango into the aftertaste with a hint of a light wheat note. This is very easy to drink with loads of bold mango sweet flavors, I give Golden Road Brewing Mango Cart Mango Wheat Ale an A+. It is a solid beer, but I didn’t really get much wheat ale qualities in mango cart which can be good becuase wheat beer tend to be heavier Mango Cart was not that heavy which along with it’s non overbmang flavor makes it a good sessionable beer, yes it crushable (easy to drink). So I recommend Golden Road Brewing Mango Cart Mango Wheat Ale its really tasty. Please stay safe and enjoy responsible! Cheers!

Throwback Thursday: Samuel Smith’s India Pale Ale

One of my favorite breweries in the world is Samuel Smith Brewery in (Tadcaster) N. Yorks, England. I have pretty much had all of they’re beer in the breweries lineup, and they are all great beers. But I found one from Samuel Smith’s that I’ve not had yet, India Ale (IPA). Like all Samuel Smith beers, this is Brewed with hard well water and fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares. Samuel Smith’s India Ale 5.0% ABV and an IBU of 46,  which pours a crisp coppery orange color with a big four finger white bubbly, rocky head that sticks around for quite a while before fading away slightly, leaving behind great strings of lacing around the glass. There is plenty of light coming through the glass with nice carbonation bubbles racing towards the white foamy head. The aroma in India Ale is lightly grassy with a slight malted scent and touches of some light tropical fruit. The taste is very low on hoppy flavor but there is a slight hop flavor present to let you know you are having an IPA. There is a nice small tropical fruit note here with a nice malt backbone to go right along with the faint grassy notes. The taste is much smoother than some American IPAs. The mouthfeel is light to almost medium. Samuel Smith’s India Ale finishes nice but dry and has a nice faintly grassy fruity aftertaste. Samuel Smith’s didn’t disappoint me with this India Ale at all, so Samuel Smith’s India Ale gets an A+. A solid smooth drinking English IPA, well balanced. Samuel Smith’s India Ale isn’t overwhelming in the hops department. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to try their first IPA or to anyone who likes beer. So please go out and try Samuel Smith’s India Ale and see what you think of it. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!
