Birdsong Brewing Co. Mexicali Stout

I have had this beer before. I just haven’t reviewed it. This beer, Birdsong Brewing Co. Mexicali Stout, 5.9% ABV from right here in Charlotte, North Carolina. It’s made with habaneros (small HOT orange peppers), cacao nibs, and local Central Coffee. I like a spicy coffee stout, so I think this could be good. This stout pours a rich black color with a two-and-a-half head of beige creamy that is very slow to fade into beautiful lacing. The aroma is of roasted coffee, sweetness, and some nice spiciness. The flavor is spicy at first, then comes the roasted coffee, and then there is some sweetness. The mouthfeel is full. This beer finish with a spicy coffee roast flavor. Then it has an aftertaste of the vegetal habanero and the spicy heat of said pepper. This stout is a great beer. The coffee flavor works well with the habanero spice. I give Birdsong Brewing Co. Mexicali Stout an A+. I a good beer from a good brewery. This stout is not a beer that when finishing a pint, you can’t go for another. I could have two pints, maybe two and a half. 450 North Brewing Co. Slushy XXXL Marshmallow Frosty Flakes

I am getting a little tired of this fruit slushy/smoothie-style beer by this point. What I have here is 405 North Brewing Co. Slushy XXXL Marshmallow Frooty Flakes, 5.3%.b All of these from this brewery have the same alcohol by volume. This fruity beer has raspberry, orange, marshmallow, cherry, vanilla ice cream, and lime. This beer pours a purple color with a quarter finger light purple head that quickly fades away. The aroma is fruity, orange, and lime. It is also sweet yet tart. The flavor is creamy, sweet, and tart. You’ll find light raspberry, light cherry, orange, and tart lime. The lime flavor is where it starts to fall off. This beer finishes with a lime flavor. That same lime flavor then carries itself into the aftertaste and lingers. The mouthfeel is full, and it coats the mouth. I found 405 North Brewing Co. Slushy XXXL Marshmallow Frooty Flakes not as good as the rest. I give this a C-. The lime flavor tastes like it should not be there. It adds a kind of off-tasting flavor to this beer. Also, the orange was a bit strange taste too. I don’t think I’d try 405 North Brewing Co. Slushy XXXL Marshmallow Frooty Flakes. Please be kind, stay safe, and enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

450 North Brewing Co. Slushy XL Strawberry-drank

This beer may be the last one I have from this brewery. This beer is 450 North Brewing Co. Slushy XL Strawyberry-drank, 5.3% ABV. This fruited beer has strawberry, banana, strawberry-ice cream, and vanilla. This beer pours a pinkish color with a half finger of pink-ish head. It fizzy away quickly. The aroma is big on strawberries. There also is some banana, sweetness, and vanilla. The taste is also big on Strawberries, and I got banana, ice cream, and vanilla. This beer has a slight tartness to its fruity sweet finish. The aftertaste is sweet with some tartness of banana. The mouthfeel is full and thick. This fruity beer coats your mouth. I have said this about all of these beers before. I cannot have more than one. I would not go straight for this type of beer. It has a bold flavor profile. It wasn’t bad. I give it a B. The slight tart flavor at the end throws it off just a bit. This beer is more of a novelty beer. But I think it’s interestingly different and unique. Please be kind, stay safe, and enjoy responsibly! Edmund’s Oast Brewing Company Comfy Armchair Brown Ale

I bought this beer yesterday while at my local Whole Foods. This ale is Edmund’s Oast Brewing Company Comfy Armchair Brown Ale, 4.3% ABV. This beer is made down in Charleston, South Carolina. Now I am a fan of the brown ale style of beer. In my option, I think it is a good spot between a light-colored/flavor style of beer and something darker. It’s a good gateway beer for getting into dark beers, such as porters and stouts. This particular beer pours a brown color with a one-finger off-white/beige head that sticks around for a while. The aroma is nutty, malted, with sweetness. There also is some dried fruit. The flavor is malty, nutty with a bit of sweetness. It finishes with a nutty, slight raisin flavor. Then you get a bit of malty, nutty flavor in the aftertaste. This beer is good and tastes great. The flavors are on the lighter side you get in traditional English-made brown ales. Edmund’s Oast Brewing Company Comfy Armchair Brown Ale get an A. There n too much out there that is better, a few. Samual Smith’s Brown Ale comes to mind that is just a little better than this. 450 North Brewing Company XXXL Slushy Wake -n- Bake

Happy New Year to everyone. I hope you had a good one. This beer, 450 North Brewing Company Slushy XXXL Wake -n- Bake, 5.3%, is the first beer review of the new year. It is made with pineapple, peach, dragonfruit, banana, kiwi, and watermelon. It pours a thick, headless, yellow color. The aroma of this beer is sweet, juicy, tropical, fruity. I got pineapple, dragonfruit, and light kiwi. The taste is sweet and fruity. There is tropical pineapple, light peach flavors, kiwi, and dragonfruit. The mouthfeel is thick and full. It then finishes with a slight tropical tart fruity flavor. The aftertaste is big on the pineapple. I think this slushy fruity beer style is a novelty thing. I mean, I don’t see myself going for more than one of them. It is very fruity and sweet. I give this 450 North Brewing Company Slush a B-. It’s thick and sweet with a load of fruit by the end, it overpowers your tastebuds. But I would go as far and say it terrible. Please be kind, stay safe and enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Rahr & Sons Brewing Company Drunken Santa Barrel-Age London Ale

I hope everyone had a happy and safe holiday. I was recently in Dallas, Texas visiting my family there. My aunt bought Rahr & Sons Drunken Santa Barrel-Aged London Ale, 9.4%. This beer is classified as a winter warmer and comes in a box with two twelve-ounce cans from Fort Worth, Texas. This Christmas beer pours black with brown edges and a two-and-a-half finger beige head. The head is steady to fade and leaves little lacing. The aroma is cinnamon sweet, clove, light roasted notes, and malty. The taste is sweet cinnamon with light malt roast. It has a cola taste to it, which is like cinnamon cola. The mouthfeel is full but not too full. The is ale finishes with a cinnamon cola sweetness. The aftertaste is a very faint bitter note. Rahr & Sons Drunken Santa Barrel-Aged London Ale is a good beer, A+ here. Rahr & Sons are one of my favorite breweries. But unfortunately, it doesn’t get distributed anywhere close to the Carolinas. I wish it did, it would be awesome. They brew great beer. This ale is not overpowering on flavor. Some barrel-aged beers can be overpowering in some way or another. It almost had a light root beer quality to it. I highly recommended Rahr & Sons Drunken Santa Barrel-Aged London. You should act fast because it is only available during the holidays. Kings Brewing Co. Fros’e Peach Passion Colada

The fruit smoothie types/styles of beer are becoming popular, and I think they are untraditional, different, and something new to the beer drinker. This particular beer is Kings Brewing Co. Fros’e Peach Passion Colada, 7% ABV. This beer comes from Rancho Cucamonga, California. I haven’t heard much about this brewing, nor have I had any of their beers. This beer pours a thick cloudy yellow color, with white foamy clumps floating up top. The aroma is sweet and fruity. There are vanilla and peach notes. The taste is peachy, and vanilla. I don’t get any other flavors. The mouthfeel is thick and full. But not as thick as some similar beers. It then finishes with a peach flavor and faint vanilla. The aftertaste is fruity and sweet. That flavor lingers until you take another sip. Kings Brewing Co. Fros’e Peach Passion Colada is a B+. There weren’t a lot of different flavors, and that helped. Some of these smoothie-type beers have too many flavors, and that can overwhelm your tastebuds. This beer did none of that. This beer flavor was just a vanilla peach. I recommend this! Dissolver & Southern Grist Brewing Co. Night Of Secrets Dry-Hopped Copper Ale

This beer, Dssolvr & Southern Grist Brewing Co. Night of Secrets Dry-Hopped Copper Ale, is a collaboration, is an Amber Ale. It’s made with Riverbend Southern Select malt, light Munich Malt, Chit, and wheat malts. It is dry-hopped with Tattnag, & Huell Mellon hops. This ale pours a deep orange/copper color with a two-finger off-white head. The aroma is piney, hoppy, and citrusy. The flavor is smooth, piney, lightly fruity, and malty. The mouthfeel is medium. This ale has a bitter malt finish with a light aftertaste that is malty a slightly bitter. Dssolvr & Southern Grist Brewing Co. Night of Secrets Dry-Hopped Copper Ale is a good beer and is an A. I found this to have just the right amount and mix of flavors. The malts play well with the hop notes. I highly recommend Dssolvr & Southern Grist Brewing Co. Night of Secrets Dry-Hopped Copper Ale. 450 North Brewing Co. & CLAG Brewing Co. Slushy XXL Slushy Charms

This beer is a collaboration between two breweries. This beer is 450 North Brewing Co. and CLAG Brewing Co. Slushy XXXL Slushy Charms, 5.3% ABV. CLAGG is in Sandusky, Ohio, and 450 North Brewing in Columbus, Indiana. It’s made with double marshmallow, orange, mango, lemon, graham cracker, cream cheese, oats, & vanilla. This beer pours a thick yellow-orange juice color with no head The aroma is fruity with orange, and mango. There is some graham cracker and vanilla sweetness. The taste is big citrus, tropical fruits such as orange, lemon, mango. There is sweetness from the vanilla, marshmallow, and graham cracker. The mouthfeel thick and full. It then has a sweet pastry finish. The aftertaste is sweet and fruity. Flavor lingers for a bit. These types of pastry fruity-type beers need to be had fresh. They can go bad after a short while. I found this beer good, but he had a lot going on. I give 450 North Brewing Co. and CLAG Brewing Co. Slushy XXXL Slushy Charms a B. I found most of the flavor to be good, but the lemon seemed like it was faint and like it was out of place. But it was good overall. Now I would not have more than one of these, because it is thick and has many flavors. I finished this beer, but I wasn’t wanting another one. If you like sweet fruity pastry then this is good be for you. I do recommend trying it once. Please be kind, stay safe, and enjoy responsibly!

Westbrook Brewing Co. Santa Claws Hazy Holiday India Pale Ale

The holiday season is here, and the holiday beer is already on the shelves. This particular beer is Westbrook Brewing Co. Santa Claws Hazy Holiday India Pale Ale, 7% ABV. This beer is from Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. It has Cascade, and CTZ hops. It is dry-hopped with Citra, Centennial, and Azacca. They use Conan yeast. They Also Carapils, oats, pale, and wheat malts. 

This IPA is similar to all their regular IPA. Such as One Claw, Two Claw, and Three Claw. This beer pours a yellow color, with two-finger white head. The aroma is piney, almost like a Christmas tree. There is a Citrus note and some bitterness. The taste is piney, hoppy, bitter, citrusy with grapefruit and orange. It has a medium juicy mouthfeel. It then has a nice citrusy, bitter finish and a bitter citrus finish that lingers until you take another sip. This IPA is a good beer, and it’s not as piney as some other holiday IPAs I’ve had. I give Westbrook Brewing Co. Santa Claws Hazy Holiday India Pale Ale a B+. It is good, but it is not different from a good hazy IPA. Nothing stands out that would make it holiday-specific. If it were a hazy IPA and not a hazy holiday IPA. It would have a higher grade. It is a great flavorful IPA that is well brewed, and I wouldn’t accept anything less from Westbrook Brewing Co.
