Central State Beer Company Garden Gose

This Central State Brewing Company Garden Gose 3.6% ABV brewed in Indianapolis Indiana is a sour wheat ale brewed with coriander and lemon. I picked this up at Good Bottle Co. (www.goodbottleco.com) here in Charlotte, NC along with six other different beers. Garden Gose pours a pale yellow color with a two finger head with good retention giving off a nice tart lemon aroma with nice sour note that take you to a flavor of tart lemon that is mildly sour with a touch of salt hitting your tongue with a nice tart lemon finish with a nice tart/sour lemon wheat aftertaste that doesn’t linger long with a light mouthfeel. Central State Brewing Company Garden Gose is a good beer but doesn’t knock my favorite Gose Westbrook Brewing Company Gose down. I say Central State Brewing Company Garden Gose is a B-. This Gose does not have any real full or strong Gose flavors to it, and it’s overall lighter than some Gose beers that I’ve had before. It’s goods and something that I recommend trying. I enjoy it but it my top Gose. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Throwback Thursday: Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. Otra Vez Gose-Style Ale

Orginally posted February 6th, 2016.

There are so many different styles of beer out there. Some tend to be more popular and also tend to leave other styles behind that then become forgotten. Gose is one style of beer that is a nearly extinct style. But thanks to the many craft beer brewers out there is it making a come back. Sierra Nevada Otra Vez, 4.5% ABV is Gose-Style Ale brewed with prickly pear cactus and grapefruit. Otra Vez pours a crisp golden color with the slightest of haze to it and a one and half finger of brilliant white foam up top. The aroma is tangy with some sweet notes of fruitiness and grapefruit. Smells refreshing. The taste is slightly tangy up front that comes from the prickly pear cactus then you get a tart flavor in the middle with a quick subtle watermelon then on the end you get a wash of grapefruit for a moment. Taste refreshing too! The mouthfeel is light with a nice tart finish and a sweet citrus aftertaste. Many this on good beer, but in the whole Gose style from Westbrook is still my number one. I give Otra Vez an A. This is a solid drinkable refreshing beer. I recommend trying Sierra Nevada Otra Vez for yourself. Everything about this beer is well balanced and taste great. But there is one small negative though; this beer should be just the slightest bit more on the tart side, but still good. This is my second best Gose. Cheers! Please drink responsibly!

Tarboro Brewing Company Seed Spitter

IMG_5403

This looks and probably sounds like a summer beer, and while it is who says you shouldn’t drink a summer beer in other seasons of the year. I say if its good and you like it drink it. Like this Tarboro Brewing Company Seed Spitter, 4.4% ABV which is a salted watermelon Gose from Tarboro North Carolina. Seed Spitter pours an orange-yellow color with a one and a half finger white head and with a big tart watermelon aroma with a faint, slightly sour note. This leads to a salted watermelon tartness with a bit of sourness toward the end with a tart salty watermelon finish and a refreshing watermelon tartness with a light mouthfeel. This is a good beer to have with bbq, hot dogs, fried chicken and.or hamburgers. I enjoyed this refreshing easy drinking beer. It’s an A here and something that is worth a try, it is smooth and refreshing with slight fruit. I highly recommend you pick up Tarboro Brewing Company Seed Spitter and try it for yourself. Cheers! please enjoy responsibly!

Bhranari Brewing Company Molly’s Lips Black Gose with Orange Blossom

IMG_5258

Now this beer from Bhranari Brewing Company, Molly’s Lips Balck Gose 4.0% ABV. This Gose-style beer is brewed with black malts, smoked English sea salt, coriander, and a hint of orange blossom. The Bhranari Brewing Company in Asheville North Carolina is named after the Hindu goddess of the Bees. Molly’s Lips pours a deep black color with brown edges and a two and a half finger beige head with decent retention, giving off a tart aroma with faint orange and some roasted dark malt notes and a with flavor of Sweet yet tartness up front then sea salt and roasted notes in the middle with a very faint coffee like note on the back of the mouth. The finish is on the lighter side for a dark beer with a slight tart roasted note with a salt roasted aftertaste and a lighter mouthfeel for a dark beer. This is a different and interesting take on a Gose-style beer and It’s not that bad, it gets a B-. Just not used to a dark or black Gose beer and it found there to be a slight conflict of flavors going on between the roasted black part and the Gose base, but it was not so bad. It just could have bee better, and Bhranari Brewing Company, Molly’s Lips Balck Gose isn’t a beer that I will be rushing back too soon. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

District 9 Brewing Wild Things Series One Peardox

IMG_5036

Here we have another beer from a Brewpublik delivery (www.brewpublik.com), this is District 9 Brewing Wild Things Series One Pearadox, 5.5% ABV. D9 in Cornelius North Carolina brews this sour ale with a ton of Bosc Pear, Pink Himalayan rock salt. Pearadox pours a bright and slightly hazy yellow color with a one finger clear and quickly fading white head that leaves no traces of it behind. The aroma is of just tart pears. This beer smells like a perry (pear cider) or cider. Taste on Pearadox is tart at fist with a faint salt note with a small sourness towards the back of the mouth, with a tart pear finish and an semi tart cider like aftertaste. Mouth feel is light This Pearadox beer tastes like a tart cider, and if you like cider than this your beer. It supposed to be sour ale, it says that on the label but it’s not. I am not saying this beer is bad. I say this beer is a C-. I was looking for more flavors but it was a little flat on that note, but was okay at the same time. It is easy and refreshing to drink as well. The beer sounded more interesting than it tasted. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

The Unknown Brewing Co. Bright Ass Tank Top Rum Barreled Key Lime Gose

IMG_4993

The Gose style, an old German style of beer has grown in popularity among craft brewers, and craft beer drinkers. I see them popping up here and there with some pretty creative brews and such. Here is a local Charlotte, North Carolina example, The Unknown Brewing Co. Bright Ass Tank Top Rum Barreled Key Lime Gose, 4.1% ABV. I pick this up in a one pint four-pack from Pop The Top Bottle Shop (www.popthetopclt.com). It’s a relatively new shop where East Blvd meets West Blvd. Bright Ass Tank Top pours a murky yellow color with a two finger white head that fizzy away quickly with minimal lacing left behind. The aroma is salted citrus fruit with some faint sweetness, and has an easy taste of salty lime with some little vanilla notes and of course the tartness you usually get on a Gose. The mouth feel is light and easy that makes a nice light salted tart lime finish with a light sweet and tart after taste and lingers for a bit. I like the Gose style and find it refreshing, as is Bight Ass Tank Top. It is balanced with all the flavors and does not over power your taste buds. The Unknown Brewing Co. Bright Ass Tank Top Rum Barreled Key Lime Gose is an A+. Does it take over Westbrooke Brewing Co. Gose spot as my number one favorite Gose? No but it is in close second, and you should try it. Thank you Pop The Top Bottle Shop for carrying this beer. I recommend you head over there and check out Pop The Top Bottle Shop. Cheers! Please Enjoy responsibly!
