Weyerbacher Brewing Co. Berry Monks Belgian Tripel

IMG_5529

This beer, Weyerbacher Brewing Co. Beery Monks, 9.3% ABV Belgian Tripel brewed with cranberries, orange peel, and ginger is a fruited version of their Merry Monks Belgian Tripel. Berry Monks pours a bright orange color with a two finger that is gone before you even see it’s there giving you a weird aroma of gingery cranberries with faint orange notes. The aroma on this is a bit medicinal smelling and the flavor is sour/tart with orange, cranberry, and big ginger notes that do not seem to meld well with one another. The flavor is a bit like berry medicine with a tart and slightly sour ginger finish with a sour bitter aftertaste that lingers too long with a light mouthfeel. You really don’t taste the 9.3% ABV because it’s masked by all the flavors that aren’t so good, I give this a D-. Cranberries and ginger shouldn’t go together and it made an off-putting flavor that makes for a bad beer and I don’t recommend Weyerbacher Brewing Co. Beery Monks, I won’t be having this again. Blah! Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Dogfish Head Craft Brewery Festina Pèche Neo-Berliner Weisse

IMG_5468.JPG

I have really been into Dogfish Head Craft Brewery nor do I like some of their beers. Festina Pèche Neo-Berliner Weisse, 4.5% ABV which I got from a past Brewpublik delivery. This is more of a late spring, summertime style beer. Festina Pèche is brewed with real peach juice and pours a Yellow color with a one finger white head that is somewhat quick to fade into tiny white halo that gives off juicy peach aromas with a nice bit of tartness, that lures you to a sweet juicy peachy tart taste that finishes with a nice tart juicy peach notes that has a nice tart Berliner Weisse aftertaste that linger on the tongue and in your mouth with a light mouthfeel. This Festina Pèche is a really refreshing easy drinkable beer that is an A. Festina Pèche is quite sessionable, you can drink a few of these without it overpowering your taste buds. I highly recommend Festina Pèche. This is one of a very few Dogfish Head Craft Brewery beers I actually like and I will enjoy this again. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Southern Tier Brewing Company 2XTaniger Double India Pale Ale

IMG_5462

There are only a few Southern Tier Brewing Co. beers that I do actually like. 2XTangier Double India Pale Ale, 8.1% ABV is only of a few. This is double IPA is the double version of Tangier and is brewed Tangerine peels and puree. 2XTangie is a limited beer and only a smaller number where were produced. 2XTangie pours a deep orange color with a two and a third white head with a slight haze to the beer, giving off sweet citrus tangerine notes with a bit of an earthy note that gives you a sweet citrusy tangerine peel flavor with some earthy bitterness that finishes smooth with a slight hop bitterness and a citrusy aftertaste all with a medium mouthfeel. Southern Tier Brewing Co. 2XTangier Double India Pale Ale is a B, I need just a touch more of the tangerine flavor to really makes this a great IPA, but 2XTangier Double India Pale Ale isn’t bad at all and is one I would have again but too many, like most stronger IPAs get to be too much on ones taste buds, and I do recommend this 2XTangier Double India Pale Ale. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Tarboro Brewing Company Seed Spitter

IMG_5403

This looks and probably sounds like a summer beer, and while it is who says you shouldn’t drink a summer beer in other seasons of the year. I say if its good and you like it drink it. Like this Tarboro Brewing Company Seed Spitter, 4.4% ABV which is a salted watermelon Gose from Tarboro North Carolina. Seed Spitter pours an orange-yellow color with a one and a half finger white head and with a big tart watermelon aroma with a faint, slightly sour note. This leads to a salted watermelon tartness with a bit of sourness toward the end with a tart salty watermelon finish and a refreshing watermelon tartness with a light mouthfeel. This is a good beer to have with bbq, hot dogs, fried chicken and.or hamburgers. I enjoyed this refreshing easy drinking beer. It’s an A here and something that is worth a try, it is smooth and refreshing with slight fruit. I highly recommend you pick up Tarboro Brewing Company Seed Spitter and try it for yourself. Cheers! please enjoy responsibly!

Hi-Wire Brewing Tropical Sour Wiesse with Passion Fruit and Guava

IMG_5398

I picked up Hi-Wire Brewing Tropical Sour Weisse w/ Passion Fruit and Guava, 4.2% ABV from Good Bottle Co. here in Charlotte. Hi-Wire Brewing in Asheville Ferments this beer Stainless tanks, White Wine Barrels and then bottle conditions it with Saccharomyces, ten months with Brettanomyces & a bacteria culture and with Champagne yeast. Tropical Sour Weisse pours a bright yellow color with a three finger bright white head and with an aroma of sourness, passion fruit with guava with some wine yeast that takes you to the sour/tart flavor up front with passion and guava fruit in the middle with a big tart flavor on the end that flows in to a nice tart Weisse finish and tart fruity aftertaste that linger with a light mouthfeel. This beer wasn’t as good as I was hoping but still A B- beer and something I might come back too, as you should too. it does have a bit too much tartness on the end, more than I would like but not a bad beer. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Hi-Wire Brewing White Grape Grisette

IMG_5265

I picked up another Hi-Wire Brewing beer, this is White Grape Grisette with Sauvignon Blanc Grapes, 5.5% ABV which is added late in the fermentation, and this Grisette is dry-hopped with Citra, El Dorado, and Equinox. This beer brewed with Saison yeast and Brettanomyces.  I purchased this from the Good Bottle Co, 125 Remount Rd here in Charlotte. White Grape Grisette pours a bright yellow color with a two finger bright white slightly foamy head with good retention that leaves behind a little amount of lacing with an aroma of funky green grapes and a faint yeasty Sauvignon Blanc note. Taste is much like a Saison but with a little more fruity flavor with the usually funky Saison yeast note, you get on a Saison. A Grisette is a form of Saison. White Grape Grisette finishes nicely, fruity with a little funky yeast note and has a slightly bitter fruity aftertaste that lingers for a little bit with a medium mouth feel. This Hi-Wire Brewing White Grape Grisette is good and gets a B+. The white grapes or Sauvignon Blanc grapes add another layer to a good beer. I recommend trying this one for yourself. I found it refreshing and easy to drink and I would have this again. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Terrapin Beer Co. T-Time Berliner Weisse

IMG_5204

This  I am fond of the Terrapin Beer Co in Athens Georgia. they brew great beers. This Terrapin, T-Time Berliner Weisse, 4.0% ABV and only 5 IBUs is a German Style Ale with Maya Tea and lemon. I think the idea here with this is golfers lemonade. T-Time pours a yellow color with a thin one and a half finger fizzy white head that quickly fades into a thin tiny halo, giving off a tart lemony aroma with a faint hint of tea. Taste is similar to its aroma, there is nice tart lemon with a light tea note up front that is slightly semi-sweet with a light tartness in the middle that finishes with a light tart lemon note give you a tart lemonade aftertaste. I found there to be a small amount of tea on this beer. So I give this an A-. It’s a nice touch on a refreshing style. But I think Terrapin needs to stick to brewing beer and not puns. So many bad gold puns on this can. But that doesn’t take away from how this beer taste. That’s the art and or marketing department fault. This T-Time is an easy refreshing beer that I highly recommend you try. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Rivertowne Brewing Co. Hala Kahiki Pineapple Ale

IMG_5164

Pineapple is good and probably one of my favorite fruits and if you didn’t know I love beer. So pineapple beer what could go wrong. Export Pennsylvania’s Rivertowne Brewing Co. brews Hala Kahiki Pineapple Ale, 4.8% ABV, that pours a clean and clear yellow color with a two and a quarter thin white fleeting head with no traces of it left behind and gives off a big pineapple and pineapple juice aroma and nothing else. Hala Kahiki (translates to rooftop) Taste just as it smells, there is big pineapple and pineapple juice but more juice than anything else. This doesn’t really taste like a beer, taste more like a pineapple cider if that is a thing. If you like pineapple cider than this is your drink. Hala Kahiki finishes with a sweet crisp pineapple flavor and an aftertaste of crisp sweet pineapple. The mouth feel is light to medium. Hala Kahiki is not a bad beer just not really a beer so I say it’s a C+. Like I said if you like pineapple cider than I recommend Rivertowne Brewing Co. Hala Kahiki Pineapple Ale. But it’s just not a beer in my opinion. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Destihl Brewery Amra Mango IPA

IMG_5083

This beer, Destihl Brewery Amra Mango IPA, 7.0% ABV and 60 IBUs came to me recently from a Brewpublik delivery. Amra is Sanskrit for Mango and is a west coast style IPA from Illinois. Amra pours a golden yellow color with a two and a half finger white head with great retention that fades very slowly, giving off juicy aromas of mangos with a slightly hoppy bitter note. Arma on the first sip is juicy mangos then in the middle comes a bit of slight earthy hops than on the back of the mouth comes to a piney fruit note, that finishes smooth with minimal bitter nice and juicy mango. Arma has a tropical fruit aftertaste that lingers with a little hop note. This beer has a really drinkable flavor that doesn’t overwhelm your pallet. Destihl Brewery Amra Mango IPA is a B+ a solid west coast IPA. Well balance and well brewed. I recommend Destihl Brewery Amra Mango IPA, it’s refreshing! Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

District 9 Brewing Wild Things Series One Peardox

IMG_5036

Here we have another beer from a Brewpublik delivery (www.brewpublik.com), this is District 9 Brewing Wild Things Series One Pearadox, 5.5% ABV. D9 in Cornelius North Carolina brews this sour ale with a ton of Bosc Pear, Pink Himalayan rock salt. Pearadox pours a bright and slightly hazy yellow color with a one finger clear and quickly fading white head that leaves no traces of it behind. The aroma is of just tart pears. This beer smells like a perry (pear cider) or cider. Taste on Pearadox is tart at fist with a faint salt note with a small sourness towards the back of the mouth, with a tart pear finish and an semi tart cider like aftertaste. Mouth feel is light This Pearadox beer tastes like a tart cider, and if you like cider than this your beer. It supposed to be sour ale, it says that on the label but it’s not. I am not saying this beer is bad. I say this beer is a C-. I was looking for more flavors but it was a little flat on that note, but was okay at the same time. It is easy and refreshing to drink as well. The beer sounded more interesting than it tasted. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!
