Wicked Weed Brewing Appalachia Session IPA

IMG_1813.jpeg

Wicked Weed Brewing Appalachia Session IPA, 4.7% brewed in Asheville, North Carolina with Citra, Mosaic, Motueka hops, with Riverbend Malts, and a portion of the proceeds from this IPA are donated to the Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservatory. Appalachia pours a yellow color with a three and a quarter fluffy white sticky slow fading head with aromas of citrus orange, grapefruit, and some bits of light lemon and grassy hops. Taste is nice with fresh bitter orange, grapefruit, and grassy fresh hops that come to a nice citrus fruit finish and an aftertaste of hoppy notes that linger for a few seconds and with a nice refreshing hoppy medium mouthfeel. Wicked Weed Brewing Appalachia Session IPA is good and without being to low on the alcohol content making for a good flavor profile and getting an A. Something that you need to have soon. I think that you can go for a four-pack of these in an afternoon/evening. Please stay safe and please enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Dssolver Another Damn Skull Petite India Pale Ale

355DF4E2-9FB6-4361-8D9D-A92C6D2437C4.jpeg

Lower ABV (Alcohol By Volume) beers are popping up here and there and have been on a good growth spurt but in the craft beer world, you will never see them called light beer. Dssolver Another Damn Skull Petite India Pale Ale, 2.8% ABV, yes the right I said is 2.8% which is very low for an IPA much less a beer in general. Another Damn Skull is brewed with Amarillo and Calypso Hops. Another Damn Skull pours a very light yellow color with a thin one finger white quick fading white head with aromas of faint hoppy lemon grassiness. Taste is light with lemon and grass notes with bits of faint hop notes and comes to a nice grassy bitter finish and a nice faint bitter grassy lemon aftertaste with a light mouthfeel.  Not a bad low abv beer but not great either, I give Dssolver Another Damn Skull Petite India Pale Ale a C+, just slightly above average. I am not really convinced that a low ABV beer should be an IPA, when you drink a good IPA I think you need to have a little higher of an ABV so you can have more flavor and everything will not taste like it’s watered down a bit. Other styles such as lager and pilsners might work better in lower ABV form. Please stay safe and please enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Edmund’s Oast Brewing Co. Coin Operated Belgian-Style Ale

B743FFA5-AB7B-4EE6-AEA4-0219751A7391.jpeg

Coming from Charleston, South Carolina Edmund’s Oast Brewery Co. Coin Operated Belgian-Style Ale, 5.5% ABV, which Edmunds classifies it as a Grisette, a table beer brewed with 2-Row, Wheat, Oat malts, Huell Melon, Hallertau, Blanc flavor hops, and Belgian Yeast. Coin Operated pours a yellow color with a four-finger bright white thick fluffy head with very good retention giving off very light lemon notes with a big and bright yeasted flavor hitting the nose. That leads into a taste of a yeasty lemon crispness with a faint spiced note that is refreshing with a white wine flavor in the middle and back of the mouth that comes to a nice refreshing white wine with a bit of yeasted spiced and a nice apple/green grape aftertaste with a lighter mouthfeel. Edmund’s Oast Brewery Co. Coin Operated Belgian-Style Ale is quite tasty getting an A+ from me. I found it to be refreshing with the right amount of spice, white wine, and yeasted flavors a balance of great flavors, which you should experience. It’s a great beer that’s great after a long hot day. Please stay safe and please enjoy responsibly!

Throwback Thursday: Huyghe Brewery Delirium Nocturnum

Belgians brew some of the best-tasting beers in the world. I love them very much. I have yet to any Delirium beers, which are brewed by the Huyghe Brewery in Melle/Ghent Belgium. This is a family brewery that has been brewing beer since 1654. Delirium Nocturnum, 8.5% ABV is a highly popular strong dark Belgian Ale and usually has pink elephants on the blue label. What the mean behind the pink elephant is not known by me, but maybe you start to see the pink elephant all over the place after too much of this beer. Nocturnum pours a dark brown color with a two and a half beige, light brown color that big and stays for a little while before settling into great-looking lacing around the edges of the goblet. The aroma is of figs, raisins with nice candied sugars and hints of alcohol. Taste is strong but none too overwhelming with nice raisin slight fig with a light subtle sweetness, but as this ale warms the alcohol becomes more dominant. I think that Nocturnum pairs well a meat dish such as a prime rib, lamb, veal or steak. The mouthfeel is full yet rich with a nice faint creamy texture. Nocturnum has a little bit of an alcoholic finish with bits of fig and hits of a sweetness that will lead to an after taste of more figs, raisins, and faint toffee. The after taste sticks around for a moment. I really enjoyed Delirium Nocturnum. I give this ale A+. You should try this one! I still think Chimay Blue is the best of the strong dark Belgian ale style, but this Delirium Nocturnum is right up there. Cheers! Happy New Year! Please enjoy responsibly!

Resident Culture Brewing Heavy Peeler Kettle Sour

IMG_1800.jpeg

Locally brewed in Charlotte, North Carolina Resident Culture Heavy Peeler Kettle Sour, 4.5% ABV is brewed with lemon, lime, passion fruit, and orange, where I purchased from Pop The Top Craft Beer Shop. Heavy Peeler pours a bright yellow color with a very quick clear/white fizzy head that sends a sour/tart aroma of lime and bits of lemon up into your nose. The taste does somewhat emulates the aroma with nice sweet but sour and tart citrusy lime with some nice bits of lemon and very very faint orange and passion fruit that does become more tart as it passes over the back of the tongue and has a tart lemon/ lime finish that carries into a slightly sour but mostly tart aftertaste that does linger for a while, with a light mouthfeel that is a bit refreshing. Resident Culture Heavy Peeler Kettle Sour is juicy and refreshing but the tart lime is not so bad but not the best and it’s a B. The lime comes and goes throughout the drinking session and yes I recommend Resident Culture Heavy Peeler Kettle Sour. Please stay safe and please enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Westbrook Brewing Company Beer To Drink When It’s Hot Outside

IMG_1793.jpeg

Coming from Mount Pleasant South Carolina Westbrook Brewing Company Beer To Drink When It’s Outside, 4.5% ABV is a Lager that is brewed with CTZ, Motueka hops, dry-hopped with Motueka, German Lager yeast, Flaked Corn, Pils malts, and Key-Lime puree. This beer has a long name and I am just going to refer to it as Beer To Drink from this point foward. Beer To Drink pours a nice yellow gold color with a one and a half finger white quick fizzy head with a lime aroma that has a sweetness to it with a light tart sour note. Taste is refreshing with a sweet citrus lime that is also tart with some light sourness to it that comes to a nice tart, sweet, sour lime finish that carries over to the aftertaste with a nice lager flavor going along with the lime that does linger for a bit all with a light refreshing mouthfeel. Now Westbrook Brewing Company Beer To Drink When It’s Outside is exactly for what the name says, it a good hot day beer. The Key-lime adds a nice refreshing touch to the beer and it’s easy to drink you could enjoy many without the beer’s flavor profile overpowering your tastebuds. It’s definitely an A+. I highly recommend Westbrook Brewing Company Beer To Drink When It’s Outside. Please stay safe and please enjoy responsibly!

Westbrook Brewing Company Peanut Butter Shake India Pale Ale

IMG_1790.jpeg

Here is another Shake IPA from Westbrook Brewing Company, this one is Westbrook Brewing Peanut Butter Shake India Pale Ale, 7% ABV and is non-homogenized brewed with Cascade, CTZ hops, dry-hopped with Citra, Mosaic, Conan Yeast,  Carapils, Oats, Pale, Wheat malts, Lactose, Peanut Butter Powder, and Vanilla. Peanut Butter Shake pours a deep dark yellow with a three and a half finger white creamy sticky head, giving off a nice sweet nutty peanut butter aroma with a light bit of hops. The taste does follow the nose with nice sweet nutty peanut butter flavor with just a hint of vanilla with a nice light bitterness that is very faint with a light citrus note toward the back of the mouth that finishes with a nice vanilla bitter peanut butter vanilla flavor and continues into the aftertaste and lingers with a light hoppy grass note. Westbrook Brewing Peanut Butter Shake India Pale Ale is quite an interesting beer even for an IPA, and a good one too getiing a B+. I’d never think that peanut butter would be used in an IPA and done well. It does have a little tiny clash between the peanut butter and the hops but nothing to trun in terrible and yes I would recommend trying Westbrook Brewing Peanut Butter Shake India Pale Ale. Please Stay Safe and please enjoy responsibly Cheers!

Hopfly Brewing Company Tropical Squeeze Fruited Sour

9AD82D11-0779-498C-B5AB-18D7FD5633A2

Locally brewed in Rocky Mount North Carolina Hopfly Brewing Company Tropical Squeeze Fruited Sour, 4.2% is brewed with Mango and Tangerine. This fruited sour pours an orange juice yellow color with a bit of an orange hue and a one-finger quick fading white head, that gives off tropical mango and tangerine notes with hints of a sourness to it. Taste pretty much follows the aroma with nice sour mango and tangerine fruit/fruit juice. This beer does taste like a straight-up soured fruit juice. Tropical Squeeze comes to a nice tropical fruit juicy sour finish and has a more tropical sour aftertaste that does linger for a little bit with a medium mouthfeel. Hopfly Brewing Company Tropical Squeeze Fruited Sour is one awesome beer and it’s definitely an A+ beer. Tropical Squeeze is really refreshing with great sour fruit flavors, not too strong. I highly recommend Hopfly Brewing Company Tropical Squeeze Fruited Sour. It was good! Please stay safe and please enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Wooden Robot Brewery Droppin’ Paradigms Juicy IPA

093DFD09-C68E-4A30-B811-9905ED775D4F

Wooden Robot Brewery Droppin’ Paradigms Juicy IPA, 7.2% brewed locally here in Charlotte, North Carolins with local malts, flaked oats, Centennial, Galaxy, Mosiac hops, fermented with Norwegian Kveik yeast strain, and using an aging method of stainless. Droppin’ Paradigms pours a yellow light golden/copper color with two-finger steady white head with aromas of semi-sweet fruity malt noted. Taste is juicy with light bitterness with fruity notes with a slight sour floral note on the end that had a dry bitter finish with a dry bitter fruit aftertaste. That strange sour floral note is not great, Wooden Robot Brewery Droppin’ Paradigms Juicy IPA gets a low C grade. The fruit flavors are okay and do hold it Droppin’ Paradigms up a bit, but I don’t think I will be going back for this soon and that is not an easy thing to say about a Wooden Robot Brewery beer they usually brew good solid beers. Droppin’ Paradigms Juicy IPA was a little off the mark. Maybe without the Norwegian Kveik, it might be better but then again I didn’t hate Wooden Robot Brewery Droppin’ Paradigms Juicy IPA, but I wouldn’t really recommend that you run out for this beer either. please stay safe and please enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Westbrook Brewing Co. Pineapple Shake India Pale Ale

04348F13-D587-4A70-9530-A8A299BED377

In the past, while back I reviewed a similar beer to Westbrook Brewing Pineapple Shake India Pale Ale, 7% ABV, and that was Peach Shake India Pale Ale. Westbrook brews six different Shake IPAs including this one. Pineapple Shake is brewed in Mt. Plesant South Carolina with Cascade, CTZ hops, dry-hopped with Citra, Mosaic, Conan Yeast, Citrapils, oats, Pale, Wheat, Pineapple, lactose, and vanilla. A lot going on it this IPA! Pineapple Shake pours a cloudy pineapple yellow color, which makes sense because it’s got pineapples in it, a three-finger fluffy white head with good sticky retention. Pineapple Shake gives an aroma of sweet fruity pineapple notes with a light bitterness that is strong on the bitter side which leads you to its flavor which is yes you guessed it a light sweetness of juicy pineapple at first with hints of a light vanilla note with bitterness throughout that grows more bitter as it passes over the tongue and through your mouth. Pineapple Shake finishes with a nice bittersweet tropical pineapple that lingers into the aftertaste with a medium mouthfeel that is almost on the fuller side. Westbrook Brewing Pineapple Shake India Pale Ale has a lot going on like I said earlier and that all seems to work, I mean I think that pineapple and an IPA go very well together, and I give it an A. The sweetness of the pineapple is elevated with the addition of the lactose and vanilla and blends nicely with Citra hop bitterness. It’s a well-brewed beer, one which is definitely a must drink. Please stay safe and please enjoy responsibly! Cheers!
