Garage Project Pickle Beer

Anything pickle I will pretty much like. Pickle Beer from Garage Project in Wellington City, New Zealand caught my eye on the Burn Ends menu in Singapore. This beer is a dill cucumber sour at 4.3% ABV. This beer pour a light pickle brine green with a thin one-finger head. It fades really quickly. The aroma is of faint/tart pickle. The flavor is not over briny with dill pickle, it rather light on the dill pickle. There is a nice tartness to this beer that is more of a sour/gosé. This beer has a light mouthfeel. Then it comes to a tart, light pickled finish with a sour/tart aftertaste. This is a good beer that is not overly pickled. I give this Garage Project Pickle Beer an A+. This is an easy drink beer that is refreshing and goes down easy. This would be great on a hot day. If you are ever in Singapore or New Zealand I highly recommend you drink this beer. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly. Cheers!

Paulaner Bräuhaus Singapore Beach Rd. Lager

Beach Rd. Lager is made Exclusively for The Raffles Hotel in Singapore by Paulaner’s Singapore Bräuhaus and is only sold at the hotel. This beer is 4.5% ABV and uses premium Franconian barley malt and Mandarina Bavarian hops. From what my waiter told me, this beer is made right across the street from the Raffles, named after Stamford Raffles, an English colonial official and governor of the East India Company who founded Singapore for the British in 1819. This beer pours an amber color with a one-finger white head. The aroma is malts and some light hay-like notes. The flavor is smooth and lightly malted. It has more carbonation than most lagers I’ve had. But that does not necessarily make this bad or good, it just is. This has a light mouthfeel. The finish is a touch bitter with light malts. The aftertaste is slightly less carbonated. This was not bad. I found this beer interesting, but I give it a C+. It was good, but Paulaner makes other better beers, and that is why I think it doesn’t get any higher than a C+. It is worth a try if you are in Singapore at the Raffles Hotel. You might never have it if you don’t. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Brewlander Lioness Session IPA

Lioness Session IPA from Singapore’s Brewlander, a craft brewery. This session IPA is in conjunction with the Singapore Edition hotel, which can be found in the hotel mini bar. This is one of many beers I will blog about throughout my journey through Asia over a month. This IPA is 4.3% ABV, which is low for a standard beer in the USA, even for a session IPA. That is just another way of calling a lower-than-standard ABV beer. A session is spent drinking beer at home or in a bar/pub. Lionless pours a light gold color with a light orange hue and a one-finger white head The aroma is light hoppy and somewhat sweet. The flavor is hoppy with light bitterness and light sweetness, with a smooth body. This has a lighter mouthfeel. The finish has a light, hoppy flavor. The finish is smooth. This is not a bad beer, and it goes down easy, but I wouldn’t say this beer is good. It is a C+. It has a light funkiness overall, but not in a bad way. I would recommend it, but then again, it wouldn’t be a beer I would look for. As for Brewlander, I would try some of their other beers. You really can judge a brewery on just one beer. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. Atomic Torpedo Imperial IPA

Battle stations, battle stations! Man the Torpedoes, Atomic Torpedo, Imperial IPA from Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. This IPA is 9.2% ABV with Honey and Two-Row Pale malts. Cascade, Centennial, Magnum, and Mosaic hops with Ale yeast are also brewed into this big IPA. Atomic Torpedo is an imperial version of their Torpedo IPA. This big IPA pours light orange with a one-finger white head. The aroma is fruity, orange, and bitter. The flavor is piney, bitter, and orange flavored. The orange flavor is not really strong, but flavorful enough. Atomic Torpedo has a somewhat light feeling in the mouth. Then, it has a piney, strong, and light-fruited finish with a nice bitter pine aftertaste. This does not feel as boozy as it is for a 9.2% imperial IPA. That is a plus and why you should drink Sierra Nevada Atomic Torpedo. I give this an A+ It has well-rounded and delicious flavors without feeling overly aggressive in the alcohol department. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Burial Beer Co. & Trillium Brewing Some Kind of Spectacle Unbeknownst to You West Coast IPA

From Bruail Beer Co. Some Kind of Spectacle Unbeknownst to You is a collaboration with Trillium Brewing and is a 6.8% ABV West Coast IPA double dry hopped with Mosaic Hyperboost, Mosiac T90, Simcoe, and Zumo hops. This beer pours yellow with a tow finger-white head. It has a bitter, hoppy, piney, and sweet aroma. The flavor resembles the hoppy, bitter, pine, and sweet smell. This has a medium and somewhat creamy mouthfeel. Then, it has a sweet pine and bitter finish that leads to a hoppy aftertaste. Burial Beer has done it again, this is good because the last beer I reviewed from them was not so good. This one was not overly bitter and hoppy, with good flavors. This IPA is an A+. I highly recommend this IPA. So go try it and other Burial Beers. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Left Hand Brewing Co. Coconut Milk Stout

It has been a while since I have had a beer from Left Hand Brewing Co. in Longmont, Colorado. Which is famous for Nitro Milk Stout. This is Coconut Milk Stout, a seasonal beer available in winter. This beer is 6% ABV with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, lactose (milk sugars) flaked oats, toasted coconut, yeast, and natural flavors, which I could not found what those natural flavors are. This stout pours black with a one-and-a-half finger beige head. It has a nice aroma of sweetness, malts, roasted/toasted coconut, and chocolate. The flavor is good/smooth, and the coconut is toasted with sweetness. Roasted malts and chocolate and it has creamy textures. This has a full feel in the mouth. Then it has a creamy, smooth, sweeter finish, with a nice toasted malted coconut aftertaste. This is a good beer and not overly heavy like some stouts. I give Coconut Milk Stout from Left Hand Brewing Co. an A. It is worth trying if you haven’t already. It has good coconut notes with just the right amount of malt and sweetness. It’s delicious! Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Hopfly Brewing Company Barbaric Yawp Black IPA

Black IPA isn’t a style of beer you see too often. I saw Barbaric Yawp earlier this week and thought it would make for an interesting review. This black IPA is 6.4% ABV, double dry-hopped with Simcoe, Chinook, and Centennial hops brewed locally in Charlotte, North Carolina. This beer pours black with a two-finger slow-fading beige head. The aroma is charred, hoppy, with light fruit aromas. The taste is hoppy, charred, bitter, nutty, and has citrus flavors. This is a medium mouthfeel beer. The finish is charred with some citrus bitterness. The aftertaste is bitterness and charred notes with a light citrus note. The fruity flavors with the char make this not so great. I give Barbaric Yawp a D. I didn’t like this very much and wouldn’t recommend it. I do like black IPA, not this one. It is too bitter and charred for my liking. But I still think Hopfly Brewing Company is a good brewery. I guess you can’t win them all. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Highland Brewing Company Seasonal Cerveza Lime Lager

From Highland Brewing Company in Asheville, North Carolina, Seasonal Cerveza Lime Lager is only available February through June. This beer is 5% ABV with Mt. Hood, Hallertau, Mittenfruh, and Perle hops. There is Vianna, Pilsner, and Dark Munich malts as well as Lime in this Lager. This lager pours a gold color with a one finger white head that fizzes away quickly. The aroma is zesty with lime and crisp on the nose. The flavor is tangy, lime, malty, and crisp with a light body. This has a light feeling in the mouth. This lager has a fruity lime finish and aftertaste of the same lime zest. This is a good crushable beer that is an A. If you like Mexican style beers, then look no further. This beer is good without trying too hard and it’s refreshing. The lime flavor does not overpower the beer in any way. It complements the overall flavors of this lager. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

New Holland Brewing Dragon’s Milk Reserve Bourbon Barrel-Age Coffee Chocolate Stout

Dragon’s Milk started as its own beer, then became the name of New Holland Brewing’s reserve series of stouts. This is Bourbon Barrel-Age Coffee Chocolate Stout. This stout is 11% ABV with Madcap Bolt Coffee. Bolt is the type of strong roast from Madcap Coffee, Grand Rapids, Michigan, not far from Holland, Michigan, where New Holland Brewing is located. This stout pours thick black with a two-finger milk chocolate colored head. The aroma is roasted coffee, chocolate, bitterness, and light bourbon. The flavor is roasted strong coffee, dark chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, and boozy. This has a full feeling in the mouth. The stout has a bourbon and chocolate coffee finish with a slight bitter dark chocolate boozy aftertaste. This is an okay bourbon barrel-aged stout. I would give the lowest C-. It is just too much strong coffee with not enough chocolate. But I have had much worse. Would I recommend this? I would halfway, but you have to like big coffee, chocolate, bourbon barrel-aged stouts. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Hitachino Nest Red Rice Ale

Produced by Kiuchi Brewery under Hitachino Nest is Red Rice Ale. This beer is 7% ABV with Lager malts, Chinook hops, and adjuncts such as red rice and flaked barley. This beer is made in Naka-shi Ibaraki, Japan. I don’t think I’ve ever had or seen a red rice ale. This beer pours a smoky pink color with no head. The head disappears as soon as the beer is poured. The aroma is fruity, malty, with some light sweetness. The flavor is fruity with strawberry sweetness, malt flavors, and light bitterness. The mouthfeel is smooth and light. This beer has some resemblance to a sour, but it is lighter. This ale finishes semi-sweet with bits of fruity flavors. The aftertaste is bitter-sweet. I didn’t find Red Rice Ale from Hitachino Nest to be good. I give this beer a D+. Not something I would recommend. The malts and the fruity flavors clashed, giving this an off taste. I like some other beers Hitachino Nest produces, like the white ale. Please stay safe, be kind to each other and remember to enjoy responsibility! Cheers!
