Wicked Weed Brewing Co. Astronomical Hazy IPA, 7.7% ABV that was kindly given to me by a friend/co-worker Matt who purchased this in Asheville, North Carolina. Astronomical Hazy IPA is brewed with many west coast hops like Calypso. Astronomical Hazy IPA pours a yellow hue with a three-finger white head that slowly fades into some decent laying throughout the pint glass giving off piney grapefruit aromas that have hoppy notes. Taste is piney with citrus grapefruit that has hoppy notes that finish with a nice grapefruit pine and an aftertaste of slight bitter grapefruit and grapefruit peel with a somewhat medium mouthfeel. Wicked Weed Brewing Co. Astronomical Hazy IPA is like bitter, hoppy grapefruit juicy that is easier to drink than some hazy grapefruit forward IPAs. Wicked Weed Brewing Co. Astronomical Hazy IPA is a B+. The bitterness doesn’t attack you tastebuds like some IPAs. It is softer on them and that helps you to really taste the hop profile and really enjoy it. Wilmington Brewing Company Jason, Stop Texting Your mom.

Wilmington Brewing Company Jason, Stop Texting Your Mom New England Style IPA, 7.6% ABV purchased from Pop The Top which was brewed pretty fresh (8.15.19) and is brewed with Pale, Pilsner, Wheat, and Oat malts. Cashmere and Ekuanot hop in the Whirpool is a common method used in commercial breweries to separate hop pellets and trub from wort after the wort boil. Essentially the wort is pumped into the whirlpool vessel at a rapid velocity, usually about 15 feet per second, to cause the wort to start spinning like a whirlpool. Dry-hopped with #1 and #2: Cashmere and Ekuanot.  Jason, Stop Texting Your Mom pours a hazy yellow with a three-finger white head that slowly fades into massive whips of lacing with tropical pineapple aromas that a bit piney yet juicy. Then comes a tropical juicy pineapple flavor hitting your taste buds with a nice tingle of piney notes with a very faint underlying sweet note that is faint at best, then Jason, Stop Texting Your Mom finishes with a nice piney fruity, and hoppy with a tropical hoppy pineapple with a fuller mouthfeel. Wilmington Brewing Company Jason, Stop Texting Your Mom New England Style IPA is big on the pineapple juice with a nice flow of flavor complementing one another nicely to make Wilmington Brewing Company Jason, Stop Texting Your Mom New England Style IPA an A. I think this has one fruit flavor note to it which makes it nice and not seem so stereotypical New England IPA, because I do like this NE IPA style it just that it seem like every beer out there is a NE IPA and it’s overshadowing everything else. But I do recommend Wilmington Brewing Company Jason, Stop Texting Your Mom New England Style IPA. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!      

Hopfly Brewing Co. Beach Beer Session India Pale Ale

Hopfly Brewing Co. Beach Beer Session India Pal Ale, 4.9% ABV out of Rocky Mount, North Carolina that I purchased from Pop the Top, Beach Beer is brewed with lots of wheat and flaked oat with Citra and Galaxy hops. Beach Beer pours a Slightly hazy light yellow color with a two and a half finger rocky white head doesn’t seem to fade leaving behind awesome lacing and giving off a hoppy aroma of citrus with some very light pine notes and great citrus fruit notes. There is a nice citrus flavor that is smoothing tasting and nicely hopped but not overly hoppy and in your face. There are nice orange and grapefruit flavors that finish a with a nice bitter citrus note and have a nice bitter slightly tropical citrus aftertaste with a smooth and light mouthfeel. Hopfly Brewing Co. Beach Beer Session India Pal Ale is a smooth IPA that is an A. It is a good beach beer, good to have a few. I think it does not overpower your mouth with lots of sweetness or bitterness it has just the right balance and is surprisingly smooth and I quite enjoyed this beer and you should too! Cheers! Wilmington Brewing Company Tropical Lightning India Pale Ale, 7.0% ABV is a west coast style IPA brewed in Wilmington, North Carolina with Pilsner, White Wheat, and Carapils malts also with Warrior, Simcoe, Citra and Amarillo hops. Tropical Lightning pours a deep shade of yellow with a two finger white head that has slow pace with a tropical aroma hitting your nose with a fruity citrus scent that is a bit tropical and a bitterness wafting into you nose . The taste is tropical fruity as well as a bit of citrus bitterness and a nice inflow of hoppy notes with a nice tropical bitter finish and a citrus tropical aftertaste with a medium mouthfeel. Wilmington Brewing Company Tropical Lightning India Pale Ale is a refreshing change from all the hazy New England IPAs that have gained so much popularity. I was drinking this and thinking how I missed a nice west coast style IPA. Tropical Lightning really nails the west coast style IPA and gets an A. Wilmington Brewing Company Tropical Lightning India Pale Ale is a beer for when you feel like an IPA but nothing sweet. I really think that its worth trying and I will see this again real soon. Casita Cerveceria Paper Rose IPA

Local brewed in Farmville, North Carolina Casita Cerveceria Paper Rose IPA, 7% ABV a hazy New England IPA brewed with pale malt, malted oats, flaked oats, and malted wheat. Hopped with Mosaic and Nelson Sauvin. I purchased this locally from Pop The Top. Paper Rose pours a deep yellow color with a semi-rocky two and a half finger white head with sweet aromas of piney hoppy slight fruity notes that lead to a semi sweet taste with a nice hoppy pine flavor with a touch of a little tropical fruit with a slight sweet bitter finish that faintly continues into the aftertaste with a slight cream fruit with a medium mouthfeel. Casita Cerveceria Paper Rose IPA has a light New England hazy IPA flavor to it that is not an assault on your taste buds. I think Paper Rose IPA is a B-. It’s good but I have had others in the style that have wowed me and this has the right flavor that is mild at best but doesn’t have anything going against it. Yeah I think you should try it, and I will go back to this Casita Cerveceria Paper Rose IPA. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Throwback Thursday: Founders Brewing Co. All Day IPA Session Ale

I have here the fifth beer of The Best of a Mixed Six-Pack. This fifth beer is Founders Brewing Co., All Day IPA Session Ale, 4.7% ABV and 42 IBUs. Founders Brewing Co is up there in Grand Rapids Michigan. The idea behind All Day IPA is that with the lower IBU and ABV IPA is something that you can drink all day long. Not that I think you should, but I think they mean you can have many and share with friends and such. All Day IPA pours a copper orange color with a one and a half finger of brilliant white that fades a semi-quick pace and leave some lacing behind but nothing really to right home about. Aroma is quite pleasant with nice wooded aroma with earth and pine with some grapefruit notes and faint hints of some bitter orange. All Day IPA has a clean taste of earthy light grapefruit flavor with a touch of pine and bitter hops and balanced out with some grain like notes. Mouthfeel is on the lighter side with an easier quality about it. The finish is smooth and clean for an IPA with enough stratifying bitterness. Aftertaste is much like a sessionable IPA should finish with nice fruited bitter notes with bites of earthy pine. This is one easy drinking IPA, and I think it deserves an A+. I would say this is an IPA you give to someone that has yet to try an IPA. All Day IPA is a gateway to the IPA style if you will. It’s well balanced with nice flavors. Beer & Chips Parings: Ruffles Double Crunch Hot Wings & Boulevard Brewing Company Space Camper Cosmic IPA

Beer & Chips Pairings are back but this is a little different than the others I will be reviewing the beer as well. This is Ruffles Double Crunch Hot Wings & Boulevard Brewing Company Space Camper Cosmic IPA, 5.9% with 50 IBUs. Space Camper is brewed with Ekuanot, El Dorado, and Galaxy Hops. Space Camper pours a deep yellow, orange color with a two finger with a fluffy head with fruity aromas of juicy mango, pineapple, with a light/faint pine note. Taste is resinous with notes of some citrus, orange, mango, and light pineapple with a hoppy note of the end that continues into the finish that grows slightly more hoppy with a light tropical fruit note and an aftertaste of tropical pine if that is a thing all with a medium mouthfeel. These Ruffles Double Crunch Hot Wings are orange with big ruffle ridges and smell like generic hot sauce. The resinous notes to cut down on the hot sauce flavor of the chips which is good because I think that’s if you eat them by themselves the hot wing sauce flavor would become too much. So Boulevard Brewing Company Space Camper Cosmic IPA is a good beer it has juicy fruit notes without overdoing that aspect with a nice resinous pine note to keep the fruit from becoming overwhelming. I give Boulevard Brewing Company Space Camper Cosmic IPA a B+. It is good and yes it does pair okay with the Ruffles Double Crunch Hot Wings but neither of them makes each other outstanding, I give this pairing a B-. Ruffles Double Crunch Hot Wings are good not the best but Boulevard Brewing Company Space Camper Cosmic IPA helps keep them from being too many flavors. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Southern Pines Brewing Company Mosaic AF

Southern Pines Brewing Company Mosaic AF New England IPA, 6.1% with 30 IBUs purchased from Total Wine and brewed in Southern Pines North Carolina is quadruple dry-hopped with Mosaic hops, oats, wheat, and lactose. If you aren’t a Millennial then you are probably scratching your head and wonder what AF is or mean, it’s just As F*ck, when something is very cool or something or someone too much, in the case of this beer it means lots of Mosaic hops. Mosaic AF pours a deep yellow hazy orange color with an almost three finger white head that slowly fades back into itself giving you nose tropical juicy fruits with a little grapefruit-like note. Taste is tropical juicy fruit with light grapefruit coming in towards the back of your mouth with a faint hint of grassy bitter notes that fade out kind of quick with a slight bitter hoppy light grapefruit finish that carries over into a similar aftertaste that lingers for a few seconds before quickly dashing away all with a medium mouthfeel. Southern Pines Brewing Company Mosaic AF New England IPA is okay, and I think that Mosaic hops are good but I felt that they didn’t go all too well with the oats and lactose. I give Southern Pines Brewing Company Mosaic AF New England IPA a D+. Maybe if they use a little bit less of the Mosaic hops then maybe it would be better. Did I hate this beer? Not particularly, it was drinkable but its that bitter hoppy note on the end that throws the beer off. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Revelry Brewing Company Never Sunny New England India Pale Ale

From Charleston South Carolina, Revelry Brewing Company Never Sunny New England India Pale Ale, 7.0% ABV was purchased from the local Total Wine. Never Sunny is another beer in the NE IPA category which is very popular right now and may continue to be just a popular. Never Sunny pours a cloudy/hazy yellow with a two finger thick white head with juicy tropical fruit aroma with citrus sweetness and a hint of a hoppy bitter note waffling into your nose. Taste does follow the aroma with nice sweet juicy tropical flavors with some citrus oranges and some light bitter/hoppy notes on the back of the tongue. Never Sunny has a juicy tropical finish a sweet juicy fruited citrus aftertaste that linger for a short time with a medium mouthfeel. This is pretty much a standard New England hazy IPA, it exactly what it’s can states and I think it should receive a B. It’s real good but it does it blow me away with flavor, and I am starting to grow a little bit tried of these New England hazy IPA and IPAs for that matter. I think that NE IPA are good but they keep standard IPA from a growth. I recommend Revelry Brewing Company Never Sunny New England India Pale Ale, I enjoyed it, it was refreshing. Cheers!
