Beer & Chips Paring: Terrapin Beer Co. Hopsecutioner IPA & Cheetos Crunchy Simply White Cheddar Jalapeño

IMG_1496.jpeg

I picked up both Terrapin Beer Co. Hopsecutioner IPA, 7.3% & Cheetos Crunchy Simply white  Cheddar Jalapeño from my local grocery store. I will be reviewing Hopsecutioner soon. Cheetos Simply Cheddar Jalapeño are made with real cheese and are more of a light yellow color than the normal bright orange Cheeto color. They are long and knotted with a minimal cheese dust/coating, and they had a nice cheddar aroma with light jalapeño spice to them. The flavor is light on the jalapeño and you get more cheese, cheese hits your taste buds followed by the light jalapeño flavor with a good crunch, that comes together for a light spicy cheddar finish and very similar aftertaste. When the Cheetos are paired with Hopsecutioner the hoppy flavors carry the spicy notes well giving them a leg up in the flavor department and slightly mask the cheddar flavor and washes it out a little bit in the finish giving you am added hoppy not to the Cheetos aftertaste. Overall these Cheetos Crunchy Simply White Cheddar Jalapeño are not too bad getting a B- & as pairing with Terrapin Beer Co. Hopsecutioner IPA it’s also a B-. The chips fall short with jalapeño flavor, needs a little more, and the cheddar does get a tiny bit lost in the IPA hop notes. But I would not turn these two down if I was offered. Please enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Beer & Chips Pairing: Terra Chips Sweet Potato & 21st Amendment Brewing Monks Blood.

Beer & Chips Pairing is back with Terra Chips Sweet Potato & 21st Amendment Brewing Monks Blood, 8.3% ABV. Terra Chips are a dark orange color similar to the inside of a sweet potato with ridges giving off a salted sweet potato aroma. Taste is what you’d expect with a good amount of sweet potato sweetness with some salt with good a crunch. 21st Amendment Brewery Monks Blood has just the right amount of sweetness to go along with the sweetness of the Terra Chips. The beers’ sweet but strong flavor is muted a bit by the chips and the chips salty flavor is washed out by Monks Blood. Terra Chips Sweet Potato is average getting a C+ but paired with 21st Amendment Brewing Monks Blood this pairing is an A-. Please enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Beer & Chips Pairing: Sun Chips French Onion & New South Brewing Waccamaw Red Ale

Beer & Chips Pairing: Sun Chips French Onion & New South Brewing Waccamaw Red Ale, 5.8% ABV, Sun Chips are a Frito-Lay brand. New South Brewing Red Ale I have previously reviewed and that can be seen here. Sun Chips French Onion are darker yellow color, have a wave shape to them and have tiny flecks of onion. They have a slight onion aroma to the with a light wafting of potato and the flavor is not pronounced with French onion as you would think. There is just enough to know that French Onion is there with some nice but light potato flavor and plenty of crunch to them. The beer counters the French Onion flavor with its bold hoppy flavor. The red ale and this French Onion chips do not pair well with one another. This pairing gets a D-, but the chips are not bad on their own so I give Sun Chips French Onion a B. The flavor of the beer overpower the flavors of these chips and that big beer flavor sticks. Don’t try these together, have a nice amber ale or a German Altbier with Sun Chips French Onion. Please enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Beer & Chips Pairing: Sun Chips Garden Salsa & New South Brewing Dirty Myrtle Double India Pale Ale

Here is another Beer & Chips Pairing with Sun Chips Garden Salsa & Dirty Myrtle Double India Pale Ale, 8.9%. I have previously reviewed Dirty Myrtle. Sun Chips Garden Salsa, from Frito-Lays, is a multigrain chip that has orange-brown wavy color in a square shape with some brown spots and an aroma of light jalapeño, tomato, and some faint grains. Taste is somewhat similar to its aroma with a nice crunchy tomato jalapeño flavor that is medium with faint grain and very faint cheese flavor. When paired with Dirty Myrtle Double India Pale the Garden Salsa Sub Chips get the jalapeño flavor washed away but do retain a light tomato flavor and as the beer washes into the back of your mouth the jalapeño flavor come back slightly and has a nice light vegetable salsa finish and after with a tiny bit of spicy heat on that aftertaste. Sun Chips Garden Salsa & Dirty Myrtle Double India Pale Ale do somewhat complement each other getting B. Dirty Myrtle Double India Pale does overpower the flavor of the chips slight a couple of times but overall was a good pair and one that you should try. Please enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Beer & Chips Pairing: Sugar Creek Brewing The Big O Blood Orange India Pale Ale & Miss Vickie’s Farmhouse White Cheddar

This is Beer & Chips Pairing: Sugar Creek Brewing The Big O Blood Orange India Pale Ale, 7% ABV & Miss Vickie’s Farmhouse White Cheddar. When you have a sharp cheese such as farmhouse white cheddar one good chose of beer is an IPA. I have previously reviewed Sugar Creek Brewing The Big O Blood Orange India Pale Ale. I might post a throwback Thursday post on it soon. Miss Vickie’s Farmhouse White Cheddar Chips are yellow smooth with very little burn edges and have a sharp cheddar cheesy aroma with some faint salty potato. The taste is strong with the farmhouse cheddar and light on the salt with a mild potato flavor. Big O does wash out a bit of the bold cheddar flavor, but as it washes over the back of your mouth the bold cheesy flavor comes right back with a nice mild blood orange flavor from the IPA. Sugar Creek Brewing The Big O Blood Orange India Pale Ale does in away pair nicely with Miss Vickie’s Farmhouse White Cheddar. I give is pairing a B-. The flavor is bold enough to make it through the big blood orange flavor of the beer and goes well with light salt and potato notes. I think that Miss Vickie’s Farmhouse White Cheddar are amazing and will definitely have them again. Please enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Beer & Chips Pairing: Wooden Robot Urban Farmhouse Brewery Green Beast IPA & Frito-Lays Bacon Wrapped Jalapeño Popper

This Beer & Chips Paring; Wooden Robot Urban Farmhouse Brewery Green Beast IPA, 7.5% ABV & Frito-lays Bacon Wrapped Jalapeño Popper. I spotted these chips at my local Harris Teeter and knew it was time for a pairing. I have a review of Wooden Robot Urban Farmhouse Brewery Green Beast IPA posted here on this blog. Frito-lays Bacon Wrapped Jalapeño Popper has a yellow with green Jalapeño flakes on them and has a smoky spicy potato aroma. They have a nice light crunch with a nice potato spice and smoke light smoky bacon-like flavor when you take a swig of Green Beast after ingesting a chip the beer cuts down on the Jalapeño spice leaving a nice potato bacon flavor. However, the Jalapeño does slowly creeps back later after the beer washes down over your tongue but not as strong as the initial bite. T  Wooden Robot Urban Farmhouse Brewery Green Beast IPA does pair somewhat okay with Frito-lays Bacon Wrapped Jalapeño Popper, I give this whole pairing a C+. The Jalapeño flavor washes out with the beer and kind of recovers and I would like to have more Jalapeño throughout the beer. Both the beer and the chops are great on their own, it’s not bad together, just not great. Please drink responsibly!

Beer & Chips Pairing: Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier & Frito-Lays Lays Wavy Ranch

This beer & chips paring I’ve paired Frito-Lays, Lays Wavy Ranch potato chips & Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier, 5.4% ABV. This is the oldest breweries in the world dating back to 1040, and this beer is a traditional German Hefe Weissbier from Bavaria, and the Lays Wavy Ranch chips aren’t anywhere near as old. Lays Wavy Ranch are yellow with green onion flakes with big wavy ridges, that have a ranch potato aroma to them more ranch notes comming off them.  Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier has a banana and clove aroma. The chips have a nice crunch with good amounts of ranch flavor and light green onion that complement the banana, clove, and wheat of this Hefe without washing out the ranch flavoring with a nice ranch potato finish and a light clove and banana that give way to a faint ranch flavor. Well, I absolutely love Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier it’s a classic and it does pair very nicely with Frito-Lays, Lays Wavy Ranch potato chips because Hefe Wiessbiers pair very will ranch-flavored thing like these chips and ranch dip. Frito-Lays, Lays Wavy Ranch potato chips & Weihenstephaner Hefe Weissbier Beer & Chips Paring is an A. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Beer & Chips Pairing: Trophy Brewing Co. & Cape Cod Kettle Cooked Waffle Cut Sea Salt

Trophy Brewing Co. Foam Party Pilsner, 5.0% ABV & Cape Cod Kettle Cooked Waffle Cut Sea Salt for this Beer & Chips Paring. I have previously review Foam Party Pilsner not too long ago. These Cap Cod Chips from Hyannis, Massachusetts are a deeper yellow color with a tight lattice cut to them and are similar to a waffle fry but not as thick, there is a potato aroma with a nice touch of sea salt and a faint crispy almost burnt aroma as well. The chips have a nice medium crunch with a nice amount of potato flavor that is salty but over salted. Foam Party Pilsner does cut some of the salt flavors and complements the somewhat greasy potato notes and together they finish nicely with a good amount of malty potato and an aftertaste of slight salt and nice greasy potato. This is a good paring of Trophy Brewing Co. Foam Party Pilsner, 5.0% ABV & Cape Cod Kettle Cooked Waffle Cut Sea Salt, pilsner goes very well with salty potato chips. This Beer & Chips Paring is a B+. The salt flavor is there but not so in your face kind of there, it has more potato flavor than anything else but these chips are a nice and welcome addition to the beer! Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Beer & Chips Parings: Ruffles Double Crunch Hot Wings & Boulevard Brewing Company Space Camper Cosmic IPA

Beer & Chips Pairings are back but this is a little different than the others I will be reviewing the beer as well. This is Ruffles Double Crunch Hot Wings & Boulevard Brewing Company Space Camper Cosmic IPA, 5.9% with 50 IBUs. Space Camper is brewed with Ekuanot, El Dorado, and Galaxy Hops. Space Camper pours a deep yellow, orange color with a two finger with a fluffy head with fruity aromas of juicy mango, pineapple, with a light/faint pine note. Taste is resinous with notes of some citrus, orange, mango, and light pineapple with a hoppy note of the end that continues into the finish that grows slightly more hoppy with a light tropical fruit note and an aftertaste of tropical pine if that is a thing all with a medium mouthfeel. These Ruffles Double Crunch Hot Wings are orange with big ruffle ridges and smell like generic hot sauce. The resinous notes to cut down on the hot sauce flavor of the chips which is good because I think that’s if you eat them by themselves the hot wing sauce flavor would become too much. So Boulevard Brewing Company Space Camper Cosmic IPA is a good beer it has juicy fruit notes without overdoing that aspect with a nice resinous pine note to keep the fruit from becoming overwhelming. I give Boulevard Brewing Company Space Camper Cosmic IPA a B+. It is good and yes it does pair okay with the Ruffles Double Crunch Hot Wings but neither of them makes each other outstanding, I give this pairing a B-. Ruffles Double Crunch Hot Wings are good not the best but Boulevard Brewing Company Space Camper Cosmic IPA helps keep them from being too many flavors. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Beer & Chips Pairing: Ponysauras Brewing Don’t Be Mean To People Golden Rule Saison & Cape Cod Sea Salt & Vinegar

My favorite potato chips are Salt & Vinegar. This is Beer & Chips Pairing: Ponysauras Brewing Don’t Be Mean To People Golden Rule Saison, 6.0% ABV & Cape Cod Sea Salt & Vinegar Potato Chips, and a paring of A review of Ponysauras Brewing Don’t be Mean To People Golden Rule Saison, will be coming soon. These Cape Cod chips are light yellow with slight burn crisp edges and have an oily salted vinegar aroma with a nice full vinegar flavor that is complemented by the sea salt. Ponysauras Brewing Don’t be Mean To People Golden Rule Saison does wash out some of the vinegar but compliments the sea salt but the strong mouthfeel of this Ponysauras beer doesn’t help the flavor of these sea salt & vinegar chips. They do pair well with this Saison but I think that a more traditional Saison would have been a better choice, whereas this Ponysauras Saison is not so traditional to the Saison style. I give this is Beer & Chips Pairing: Ponysauras Brewing Don’t Be Mean To People Golden Rule Saison, 6.0% ABV & Cape Cod Sea Salt & Vinegar Potato Chips a C+. It’s just slightly above average. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!
