Throwback Thursday: Samuel Smith’s India Pale Ale

One of my favorite breweries in the world is Samuel Smith Brewery in (Tadcaster) N. Yorks, England. I have pretty much had all of they’re beer in the breweries lineup, and they are all great beers. But I found one from Samuel Smith’s that I’ve not had yet, India Ale (IPA). Like all Samuel Smith beers, this is Brewed with hard well water and fermented in ‘stone Yorkshire squares. Samuel Smith’s India Ale 5.0% ABV and an IBU of 46,  which pours a crisp coppery orange color with a big four finger white bubbly, rocky head that sticks around for quite a while before fading away slightly, leaving behind great strings of lacing around the glass. There is plenty of light coming through the glass with nice carbonation bubbles racing towards the white foamy head. The aroma in India Ale is lightly grassy with a slight malted scent and touches of some light tropical fruit. The taste is very low on hoppy flavor but there is a slight hop flavor present to let you know you are having an IPA. There is a nice small tropical fruit note here with a nice malt backbone to go right along with the faint grassy notes. The taste is much smoother than some American IPAs. The mouthfeel is light to almost medium. Samuel Smith’s India Ale finishes nice but dry and has a nice faintly grassy fruity aftertaste. Samuel Smith’s didn’t disappoint me with this India Ale at all, so Samuel Smith’s India Ale gets an A+. A solid smooth drinking English IPA, well balanced. Samuel Smith’s India Ale isn’t overwhelming in the hops department. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to try their first IPA or to anyone who likes beer. So please go out and try Samuel Smith’s India Ale and see what you think of it. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Hopfly Brewing Company Freestone IPA is a great beer that is an A+ every part of this IPA was well brewed with great delicious flavors tht is an must have IPA, I would definitely have this again and a again. Birdsong Brewing Co. Fake Plastic Trees Hazy IPA

IMG_1896.jpeg

Brewed local in Charlotte, North Carolina Birdsong Brewing Co. Fake Plastic Trees Hazy IPA, 6.4% ABV is brewed with Two-Row, Red Wheat, Flaked Wheat, Flaked Oats,  Munich malts, Comet, Cascade, and Sorachi Ace hops. This is a seasonal beer only available during the summer. Fake Plastic Trees pours a deeper yellow color with a two-finger creamy white head that fades slowly with aromas of semi-sweet malts with a bitter hops noes. The flavor is similar to its own aroma, semi-sweet at first then bitter with a bit of citrus fruit and some grassy notes toward the end that finish with a weird bitter note that is off-putting and it continues into a bitter after tastes with a medium mouthfeel.  I usually like most Birdsong Brewing beer and Fake Plastic Trees wasn’t one of them, and I give it a D. The way Fake Plastic Trees finished was not good and it lingered too long for me and the citrus was very faint and was a bit off not really citrusy. I will not tell you to go and try this beer, all the flavor didn’t really come together. I didn’t like it. Please stay safe and enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

J. Wakefield Brewing Ponch & Jon Northwestern Style IPA

F0F594B6-9C40-4015-9AB6-C67D736E54FE.jpeg

J. Wakefield Brewing Ponch & Jon Northwestern Style IPA, 6.5% ABV is a beer that I purchased from Pop The Top Craft Beer Shop partly because of the can neat looking artwork, partly because of the CHiPs connection and because I don’t see tomay J. Wakefield beers in my area. Ponch & Jon is brewed with Strata, Idaho 7, & Simcoe hops. This IPA pours a cloudy hazy yellow color with a very slow fading pillowy white fluffy three and a quarter finger head. Ponch & Jon gives off a nice tropical citrusy aroma that is dank and pine with a nice tropical citrusy dake flavor with some pine notes that hit the taste buds in the back of the mouth, that come to a nice thick bitter finish and a nice tropical hoppy aftertaste that linger just enjoy to enjoy and has a slightly thick mouthfeel. I do enjoy this style of IPA but not on the top of my list and J. Wakefield Brewing Ponch & Jon Northwestern Style IPA is good getting a B+. I think that the slight pine notes to be a touch out of place for this IPA style and does not really go all that well with the tropical flavors, but it was not the most terrible thing I’ve had. It had a nice about of good tropical flavors with some nice bitter notes that really were tasty and this was quite an interesting beer if you like New England style IPA I would say, sure go try J. Wakefield Brewing Ponch & Jon Northwestern Style IPA. Please stay safe and please enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

NoDa Brewing Company Hop So-Low IPA, 4.2% ABV is a Low-Calorie Low Carb India Pale Ale brewed in Charlotte, North Carolina with 2.6 grams of carbs, 100 calories per 12 ounces serving. Hop So-Low pours yellow with a three-finger bright white head giving you very light and very faint piney, hoppy pilsner aromas with a faint hint of citrus fruit. Taste pretty much light and faint with a hoppy pine notes and some super subtle citrus notes. Hop So-Low is pilsner/lager like with a very very faint IPA profile that finishes light with a touch of piney citrusy bitterness and not much of an aftertaste and with a very light mouthfeel. NoDa Brewing Company Hop So-Low IPA is not a good beer, I give it a D. Usually NoDa Brewing Company brews good beer, but not this one. Low carb low-calorie beer should not be an IPA I don’t think it works very well and I would not try this at all. Please stay safe at home and please enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

New Sarum Brewing Co. Strawberry Hazy Cakes Hazy IPA

IMG_1825.jpeg

New Sarum Brewing Co Strawberry Hazy Cakes Hazy IPA, 7.0% ABV, brewed in Salisbury, North Carolina with Local Patterson Farms strawberries and Lactose is a relatively new beer from New Sarum. Strawberry Hazy Cakes pours a hazy yellow color with a one and a quarter white thin head that has little retention. You get nice light sweet fruity strawberry and nice bittersweet aromas that then lead to a bitter taste of nice fruity strawberries that have a light sweetness to them and a hint of a sour like note towards the end that comes to a hoppy strawberry finish and a bitter sweet-fruited aftertaste that linger for a second or two with a medium mouthfeel. The strawberry flavor to this is not as predominant as I was hoping but it did keep the bitterness/hoppiness down with I give New Sarum Brewing Co Strawberry Hazy Cakes Hazy IPA a C-. I would have liked to have more strawberry flavor but not a whole lot more just a little more and I think it would have been better overall. It wasn’t a terrible beer, it was just not what I was thought it was going to be and what I tasted was okay. It is however refreshing and not harsh to drink so that helps a little but I don’t think something that shouldn’t be had, but not one to rush out for. Please stay safe and please enjoy responsibly! Cheers!
