New Holland Brewing Dragon’s Milk Reserve Bourbon Barrel-Age Coffee Chocolate Stout

Dragon’s Milk started as its own beer, then became the name of New Holland Brewing’s reserve series of stouts. This is Bourbon Barrel-Age Coffee Chocolate Stout. This stout is 11% ABV with Madcap Bolt Coffee. Bolt is the type of strong roast from Madcap Coffee, Grand Rapids, Michigan, not far from Holland, Michigan, where New Holland Brewing is located. This stout pours thick black with a two-finger milk chocolate colored head. The aroma is roasted coffee, chocolate, bitterness, and light bourbon. The flavor is roasted strong coffee, dark chocolate, bourbon, vanilla, and boozy. This has a full feeling in the mouth. The stout has a bourbon and chocolate coffee finish with a slight bitter dark chocolate boozy aftertaste. This is an okay bourbon barrel-aged stout. I would give the lowest C-. It is just too much strong coffee with not enough chocolate. But I have had much worse. Would I recommend this? I would halfway, but you have to like big coffee, chocolate, bourbon barrel-aged stouts. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Burial Beer Co. Skillet Donut Stout

Burial Beer Co., Skillet Donut Stout makes this beer in Asheville, North Carolina. This beer is 8% ABV. This is an oatmeal Stout with lactose, coffee, nine barley malts, a scoop of oats, molasses, and milk sugars. The coffee comes from Guatemala, Ethiopia, and Columbia. This stout pours a deep, black, thick, with a two-finger creamy beige head. The aroma is bittersweet, malty, roasted, and deep. The flavor is roasted coffee, and bittersweet malt, with a syrup flavor. There is a full feeling in the mouth. Then you get a bitterness with a rounded sweetness and coffee for a finish. The aftertaste is like coffee with cream that lingers just a little. This beer may sound like a big beer, but it drinks like it isn’t. This beer is good, I give this Skillet Donut Stout an A+. You should be drinking this beer. It would go well with a nice chocolate dessert, waffles, French toast, or pancakes. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Devils Logic #8 Oatmeal Coffee Stout

This local Devil’s Logic Brewing (Charlotte, North Carolina) beer is #8 Oatmeal Coffee Stout. This stout is 5.4%. Devil’s Logic conditions this beer on Enderly Coffee Company’s Brazilian roast. This beer pours a black color with a steady two-finger tan head. The aroma is sweet with chocolate, malty, and a roasted coffee smell. The taste is sweet, roasted coffee, chocolate, malted, and oatmeal. This dark stout has a medium body. Then this beer finishes with a sweet roasted chocolate flavor. The aftertaste is roasted chocolate coffee. This beer is not as full on with the flavors but they are good. I give #8 Oatmeal Coffee Stout a B-. The flavors are medium and not as strong as other beers like this one. I’d still recommend it for the fact that it is good and not so big on the ABV. It is well-balanced in flavor. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Legal Remedy Brewing Co. World Court Mocha Blonde Stout

This beer from Rock Hill, South Carolina, is World Court. This is a Mocha Blonde Stout from Legal Remedy. This beer is made with Knowledge Perk Coffee and white chocolate. This beer is 6% ABV. This stout pours a deeper yellow/orange color with a one-finger white head. The aroma is sweet with chocolate. This beer has some light coffee notes. The taste is chocolate, sweet, and smooth. The coffee flavor is faint, and I think the chocolate covers over it. This beer has a medium feel to the mouth. This beer finishes with a light coffee roast and chocolate taste. The aftertaste is more chocolate than anything else. This mocha blonde stout is okay. I would say it’s a C+. The coffee gets lost in the white Chocolate. But this is not the worst, and yes I would recommend it, but don’t seek it out! Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

NoDa Brewing Company Purely Intentional Breakfast Stout

This beer is Purely Intentional Breakfast Stout by NoDa Brewing Company. This beer uses local Pure Intentions Coffee. This beer is 6.4% ABV. This Stout pours a thick dark black color with a one and a half finger beige head. There is some beige around the edges after the head fades. The aroma is roasted coffee and bitter coffee. The flavor is creamy, roasted coffee, bitter coffee, and a little malted noted. The mouthfeel is full, smooth and coats the mouth. Then it comes to a nice bitter-roasted coffee finish. Then you get an aftertaste of bitter coffee with some creaminess. This beer was not so terrible, but I found the bitter notes from the coffee to dominate the flavor a bit. So I would give Purely Intentional Breakfast Stout a B-. The creamy roasted flavor did help. I don’t think this is terrible tasting, but I would not go back to this again for a while. Please stay safe, be kind to everyone, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Elysian Brewing Company Spilt Shot Espresso Milk Stout

Split Shot from Elysian Brewing Company is an espresso Milk Stout. It has Lactose and Stumptown Coffee. This beer form in Seattle, Washington. It is 6% ABV. You can probably see the entire top of the beer can is gone. A product called Dtafttop (http://www.draftTop.com) was sent to me. Drafttop is a cutting device that can turn any drink can into a drinking glass. It works by lining it up with the pull tab, then rotating it counterclockwise, allowing the Drafttop to lock the pull tab. Then you turn it clockwise as you press in on the sides of the Drafttop, which cuts into the can top. Then after about one and a half clockwise rotations, you have successfully removed the top of the can. This product is a neat little novelty item, is a conversation starter, and works well when you read the instructions. Split Shot pours a black color with a two-finger cream tan head. The aroma is sweet, with coffee notes, roasted, and some bitterness. The taste is sweet with roasted coffee. The scent of this beer is also creamy, sweet, and smooth. The mouthfeel is full but not heavy. It does coat the mouth. Then it has a nice sweet roasted finish with a smooth coffee aftertaste. There is a tiny bitter note in the aftertaste. This beer is a good coffee milk stout. I give Spilt Shot an A-. I like more of a roasted coffee flavor on these types of beer, and Split Shot had a nice average coffee roast flavor. It was good, but I’d like a little more. Overall it was good, and yes, I would recommend it. Please stay safe, be kind, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Birdsong Brewing Co. Mexicali Stout

I have had this beer before. I just haven’t reviewed it. This beer, Birdsong Brewing Co. Mexicali Stout, 5.9% ABV from right here in Charlotte, North Carolina. It’s made with habaneros (small HOT orange peppers), cacao nibs, and local Central Coffee. I like a spicy coffee stout, so I think this could be good. This stout pours a rich black color with a two-and-a-half head of beige creamy that is very slow to fade into beautiful lacing. The aroma is of roasted coffee, sweetness, and some nice spiciness. The flavor is spicy at first, then comes the roasted coffee, and then there is some sweetness. The mouthfeel is full. This beer finish with a spicy coffee roast flavor. Then it has an aftertaste of the vegetal habanero and the spicy heat of said pepper. This stout is a great beer. The coffee flavor works well with the habanero spice. I give Birdsong Brewing Co. Mexicali Stout an A+. I a good beer from a good brewery. This stout is not a beer that when finishing a pint, you can’t go for another. I could have two pints, maybe two and a half. I highly recommended Birdsong Brewing Co. Mexicali Stout. Please be kind, stay safe, and enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Lenny Boy Brewing Co. Ground Up Coffee Milk Stout.

This beer brewed in Charlotte, North Carolina Counter Culture Coffee from Durham North Carolina, Lenny Boy Brewing Co. Ground Up Coffee Milk Stout, 5.3% ABV. This stout pours a deep black color with a thin one finger beige head that quickly scatters. The aroma is roasted and malty with some slight sweet chocolate, toffee, and bits of caramel. Ground Up has a similar flavor as the aroma. There are roasted flavors with faint but sweet chocolate, caramel, and light toffee with a little bit of creaminess. Then this coffee Milk Stout finishes thin with a lingering aftertaste of what’s left of the initial flavors, and the mouthfeel is medium. All the flavors are not as strong feeling at best but not very bad. Overall, Lenny Boy Brewing Co. Ground Up Coffee Milk Stout is not the worst beer I’ve had when it comes to coffee Milk Stout, and I give it a C+. It needs to be bolder in flavor with a creamier texture and flavor, but it is only 5.3% ABV and could be higher to help the flavors. But like I said, this is not the worst I’ve had. Please stay safe and enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Dssolver Brewing Eat The Rich Bourbon Barrel coffee Stout

30F0ADE5-3D1D-42CF-ACC4-564E9740A1AD.jpeg

Dssolver Brewing Eat The Rich Bourbon Barrel Coffee Stout, 5.5% ABV is a collaboration between Dssolver Brewing and Hoof Hearted Coffee and is a bourbon barrel fermented after being brewed with Cacao nibs, vanilla, sea salt, hazelnut, & bourbon barrel-aged Hoof Hearted Coffee Beans. Eat The Rich pours a thick black color with a two-finger foamy/rocky brown creamy slow head with roasted and toasted coffee sweet vanilla cacao aromas that entice you to take a lush sip allowing toasted roast notes of a nice vanilla/chocolate coffee sweetness with a big of bourbon notes hitting your taste buds with a little nutty notes makes its way into the flavor mix that comes to a nice bourbon coffee finish and continues into the aftertaste with some light vanilla sweet notes with a fully sticky mouthfeel. Dssolver Brewing Eat The Rich Bourbon Barrel Coffee Stout does have a lot going on but it all comes together for a wonderful dark stout beer, getting an A. You can really taste all the individual flavor of this beer and that is not an easy task, I mean sometimes on flavor could overwhelm another flavor, but Dssolver Brewing Eat The Rich Bourbon Barrel Coffee Stout really lets all the tasty flavors shine though and that makes it a beer that is worth trying! Please stay safe at home and please enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Gizmo BrewWorks Coffee Stiletto Stout

I picked up Gizmo BrewWorks Coffee Stiletto Stout, 6.1% ABV and 31 IBU from the local Total Wine here. This is a coffee version of Gizmo BrewWorks Black Stiletto Stout but with a double shot of Ethiopian coffee from Benelux. The beans are slowly roasted and added directly to the beer. Coffee Stiletto Stout pours a semi-thick black color with a two finger beige head that fades into a one finger head with aromas of roasted coffee with nice notes of strong espresso. Coffee Stiletto Stout has a roasted coffee flavor with a malted espresso note towards the middle of the tongue that picks of faint smokey notes as it hits your throat with a nice espresso coffee finish and a roasted raw coffee bean aftertaste with a nice full mouthfeel. Now Gizmo BrewWorks Coffee Stiletto Stout isn’t what I would call the best, I’ve had better versions of Coffee Stouts, some that are creamier with a fuller coffee flavor, this had more of a milder coffee flavor which gets it a C+. I don’t find this bad, I would say Gizmo BrewWorks Coffee Stiletto Stout is more of a drinkable Coffee Stout but not what you really look for in this type of beer style. I would go back to this but not soon and not one I would one hundred percent recommend Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!
