Middle James Brewing Company Cosmic Curiosities Peach Sour Ale

I was shopping at the grocery store for some beer, and a representative from the Middle Jame Brewing Company told me that this beer, Cosmic Curiosities Peach Sour Ale, 5% ABV, was good for the hot weather. So I took his word and bought a four-pack. This ale brewed in Pineville, North Carolina, is a part of Charlotte. This beer uses real peach purée. This sour ale pours an orange color with a four-finger white slow head. The aroma is sour, tart, and peachy. The flavor is similar to its smell, with tart, and sour peaches. It is a bright overall flavor. The mouthfeel is light and refreshing. Then it finishes with a tart peach flavor. The aftertaste is tart, and a little sour, but the peach has begun to fade. It’s not as strong as the first taste. This ale is good, but not as good as I was expecting. I give this Cosmic Curiosities Peach Sour Ale a C-. The peach is light on flavor. I would like it to be a little more full and flavorful. But it’s just below average, and I’ve had better versions of this type of beer. I don’t recommend it, and it’s not the worst choice. NoDa Brewing Company Southern Love, Southeastern Style India Pale Ale

I saw this at my local Harris Teeter grocery store and picked up a four-pack. This beer is Southern Love, Southeastern Style India Pale, 5.5% ABV. This beer is from NoDa Brewing Company here in Charlotte, North Carolina. This IPA made with Grits, Simcoe, Mosaic, Citra, Centennial, and Chinook hops. This beer pours a yellow with a four-finger white head. The aroma is of light fruitiness, crispness, and bitterness. The taste is crisp, with fruit, and a bitter flavor . The mouthfeel is light. Then this IPA beer finishes with a crisp, refreshing bitterness. The aftertaste is also bitter and crisp. I think this is quite a refreshing IPA. It is not heavy on bitter flavor or mouthfeel. I’d say Southern Love is an A+. If you haven’t had this yet, then you should be soon. I highly recommend it. It is good for the warmer weather that is coming or here already. Triple C Brewing Company Enzo Gorlami Italian Style Pilsner

This double dry-hopped Italian style Pilsner, Enzo Gorlami, 5.5% ABV from Triple C Brewing Company, is made locally in Charlotte. This pilsner pours a gold color with a big two-finger white head that slowly fades. The aroma is crisp, lightly bitter, and citrusy. The flavor is crisp tasting with a bitter lemon and grapefruit flavor. The mouthfeel is light. Then this pilsner finishes with a light bitter note and a bit of a dry crips flavor. The aftertaste is okay. There is a bitter fruit there with a bread note. Well, this was starting off to be a bad-tasting beer until I looked up, that is double dry-hopped, then the off-flavor made sense. But I still don’t think this is a great pilsner. I give Enzo Gorlami a D+. I don’t care so much for a bitter/hoppy pilsner, but save that hoppy flavor for a lager. I don’t recommend this pilsner. It starts smooth and crisp, then it just goes bitter without warning, then finishes crisp with light bitter notes. The flavors don’t go well. It’s s like a different beer in the middle. Spoetzl Brewery Shiner Beer ¡Órale! Mexican-Style Cerveza

This beer, ¡Órale! is the newest beer from Shiner Beer’s Spoetzl Brewery. This beer is a 4.5% ABV Mexican-style Cerveza brewed with Agave. Before I get into this beer review, I’d like to thank KLG Public Relations for sending this to me. This Mexican-style beer pours a golden yellow color with a fizzy one-finger head. The aroma is sweet, clean, and slightly dry. The flavor is crisp, refreshing, a little sweet, and smooth. The sweet is from the addition of Agave. The mouthfeel is light which you’d expect from a Mexican-style beer. Then this beer finishes with a light sweet resting flavor that fades as it continues into the aftertaste. This beer ¡Órale! is a solid offering from Shiner beer. This beer is a B+ beer. I recommend trying it. Most of the time, you will find this style is just lager with lime. Now that can be both bad and good. But the Agave is something different and will set this apart from other Mexican-style beers. Please be kind, be safe, and remember, always enjoy responsibly! Eurisko Beer Co. RIPA

I took a trip over to a local pasta shop Pasta and Provisions and bought some beer. One is RIPA, 6.0% ABV from Eurisko Beer Co. and is from their Wonderful; Weird beers. This beer is a Rice India Pale Ale, and that is why it’s RIPA. This brewery is in Asheville, North Carolina. Eurisko uses rice, Citra, and Crystal dry-hopped, and then it’s finished with an addition of SPECTRUM Citra dry-hopped liquid. This beer pours a yellow color with a big three-finger steady fading white head. The aroma is hoppy, piney, dry, and bitter. The flavor is like its own aroma. It is dry, hoppy, bitter piney, and has little rice lager taste. The mouthfeel is barely medium. Then this ale finishes dry and bitter. The aftertaste is dry, and bitter, with a little crisp note. The rice adds a nice touch to this IPA. I don’t see many rice IPA, there is a little more rice lager out there. This is a good IPA, and I give it an A. I didn’t get much of the Citra hop flavor but that didn’t knock it down too far. It’s an IPA that I would recommend trying. Please be kind, be safe and remember to always enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Sugar Creek Brewing Company Hi-Creek Fruit Punch Sour Ale

Ever since I hear about Sugar Creek Brewing Company’s Hi-Creek I have been on the lookout for this. So yesterday I saw it on the back of the beer shelf at my local Harris Teeter grocery store. This is a 6.0% ABV fruit punch sour ale. It is kettle-soured. This sour ale pours an orange color with a half-finger white head. The aroma is fruity with cherry, orange, and strawberry. The aroma is also tart & sour. The taste is fruity, tart, and sour. You get orange and cherry but almost no strawberries are present on your taste buds. It has low bitterness. The mouthfeel is light. Then this sour ale finishes with a tart sour flavor, but not too sour/tart. The aftertaste is fruity and sour with a little tartness, This is a good sour but needs more fruit flavor to make it perfect. It is a B+ from me. I enjoyed and will enjoy this again. The can art is eye-catching and fun. Sugar Creek Brewing Company did a good job with Hi-Creek. You should try it! Please be kind, be safe and always remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers! 

O.G. Yuengling & Sons Traditional Lager

Yuengling is one of the oldest breweries in the United States, it has been around since 1829. This beer is their Traditional Lager, 4.5%. It’s an Amber lager, and it is easily accessible, found in most places that sell beer. This lager beer pours a copper, amber color with a fizzy one-finger white head. The head fades rather quickly. This lager has a caramel sweet aroma. The flavor is caramel sweet, malty, and light. The mouthfeel is light. Then this amber lager finishes with a bad metallic sweet flavor. There isn’t much aftertaste, except for a flavor or the inside of the vessel that this beer was made in. I found this Yuengling Traditional Lager to be boring and not very good. I give this beer a D-. The bit of caramel sweetness Barley made it tolerable. Yes, I did finish this, but I did it quicker than I normally would. I wouldn’t recommend this amber lager. It’s something I would pass on New Belgium Fat Tire is a better choice for an amber lager. I have reviewed that beer if you’d like to check that out. But there must be people out there that like this beer for it to be around for so long. They must be doing something right, at least by the people who like this Yuengling Traditional Lager. Town Brewing Co. Spratt’s Premium Lager

Lager is probably a bad word when it comes to craft beer drinkers. That’s is because we craft drinkers think of Bud, Miller, Coors beers. These are not good beers, according to craft drinkers. But there is more and more lager beer made by craft beer breweries. This particular lager is Spratt’s Premium Lager from Town Brewing Co. It comes in at 4.6% ABV, which is on the lower abv scale. This Lager beer is brewed right here in Charlotte, North Carolina. Spratt’s Lager finest pilsner malt, heirloom rice, and American hop. This lager beer, pours a clear gold color with a bright one-finger white fizzy head. The aroma is clean, sweet, and fruity. The taste is also clean and fruity with a white bread note. The mouthfeel is light. Then this lager beer finishes with a crisp light fruity flavor. The aftertaste is slightly dry and fruity. This lager beer is better the most macro lager beers. It’s a B-. There is nothing memorable about this beer’s flavor profile, and that’s generally what a lager is. If you want something simple in a beer, I recommend Spratt’s, Premium Lager. Heist Brewery Because Stone Kolsch Said So Kolsch Style Ale

Kolsch is a lighter German-style ale. This beer from Heist Brewing here in Charlotte, NC. This beer is Because Stone Kolsch Said So, 4.8% ABV. I have not had a lot of beer from Heist. This beer pours a clear golden color with a one-finger white head that fades steadily into a white halo. The aroma is of light bread, some sweetness, with a clean smell. The flavor is dry but light, clean, and sweet. The mouthfeel is light and refreshing. Then this Kolsch ale finishes with a dry flavor that has a hint of sweetness. The aftertaste is also dry. But less dry with a nice light sweet note. This Heist Brewery Kolsch is good, but it didn’t blow me away or wows me. It was a little above average. I give Because Stone Kolsch Said So a C+. It is refreshing and clean, but the flavors are muted. This Ale isn’t a beer I wouldn’t tell you not to buy. I am warning you that it’s just slightly above average. Foothills Brewing Hazyum IPA

Hazyum IPA, 6.9% ABV is a hazy version of Foothills Brewing’s (in Winston-Salem, North Carolina) Hoppyum IPA. Foothills Brewing uses locally sourced wheat and malts. This IPA pours a cloudy darker lemon yellow color with a two-and-a-half finger white head. The head is somewhat quick to go. The aroma is tropical, orangey, and bitter. The flavor is also tropical and orangey with grapefruit, melon, and pineapple. It is also bitter towards the back of the tongue with a bitter and tart flavor. The mouthfeel is light but barely. Then this IPA finishes with a tropical fruit flavor. The aftertaste is of bitter tropical fruits. This IPA is a nice hazy version of Hoppyum, a tropical forward Hoppyum. I like Hazyum, and would Gove this a B+. I still think that Hoppyum is just a bit better. I would still recommend Hazyum IPA. Please be kind, be safe and enjoy responsibly! Cheers!
