Catawba Brewing Co. Evening Joe Coffee Blonde Ale

IMG_5774

Catawba Brewing Co. Evening Joe, 5.7% ABV a limited release is a blonde coffee ale. A morning beverage that you’ll want to have as your evening pint. Evening Joe pours a deep orange/copper color with a thin one finger white head that quickly falls back into itself with sweet aromas of vanilla coffee with a bit of a roasted scent that draws you into a sweet vanilla coffee taste with a nice roasted note on the back on the tongue with a sweet roasted finish and a roasted vanilla finish and a medium mouthfeel. This is a good beer that’s easier to drink than most coffee beers. This is a B+ beer. Catawba Brewing Co. Evening Joe is good but Wooden Robot Brewer Good Morning Vietnam is a better coffee blonde Ale, it’s even easier to drink. Catawba Brewing Co. Evening Joe would get to be too much flavor after two. I enjoyed it and so should you. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

The Unknown Brewing Co. Feather Light

IMG_5763

This is a beer that I thought I’d never see, The Unknown Brewing Co. Feather Light, 3.8% not because it is rare or hard to find no that not it! It’s because Feather Light is a light Berliner Ale, yes light as in light beer and Feather Light is only 123 calories from Charlotte NC’s Unkown Brewing co. A light beer from a Craft Brewery well it’s happened. Feather Light pours a slightly hazy yellow with a thin one finger white head that quickly falls into itself giving a light yet faint sour/tart aroma with some faint flavors sour/tart fruity flavor on its light taste with a slightly tart finish and light sour aftertaste with a very thin and light mouthfeel. Yes, this a better version of a light beer, a light beer with more flavor with an ease of drinking and quite refreshing. I would give The Unknown Brewing Co. Feather Light a B-. Craft Beer drinkers aren’t really worried about how many calories are in their beer so this might be a marketing gimmick to get calorie conscious people whom might not be into craft beer into craft beer. Well, I don’t care if that’s the case I just think The Unknown Brewing Co. Feather Light is a good beer that you should try for yourself. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Firestone Walker Brewing Pivo Pilsner

IMG_5759

Firestone Walker Brewing is new to the Carolina area and is now being distributed in the area now. This Firestone Walker Brewing Pivo Pilsner, 5.3% ABV a hoppy Pilsner showcasing stylistic influences from Germany, Italy, and the Czech Republic with west coast US dry hopping. Pivo Pilsner pours a crisp clear golden color with a tight one and a half finger white head with dry aromas of crisp cracker with a little faint sweetness with a little bitter note wafting from it that gives way to a crisp cracker taste with a nice quick faint hit of malt with a bittersweetness towards the back of the mouth with a crisp bitter finish that is somewhat smooth and a nice light bitter aftertaste with a light mouthfeel. Pivo Pilsner a great introduction to Firestone Walker Brewing, I give Pivo Pilsner an A. It’s a refreshing Pilsner and one that is easy to drink. I highly recommend Pivo Pilsner. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Throwback Thursday: The Olde Mecklenburg Brewery RPA, Rein Pale Ale

Orginally posted on July 14th, 2012.

IMG_0894

Yes my favorite brewery has been hard at work and here is a NEW brew RPA, no not Rye Pale Ale, this is Rein Pale ale, 5.2% ABV. This is a cross between an American pale ale and a German-style lager ale. OMB brews this with a combination of four different American and German barley malt varieties, spicy American Tettnag and noble Czech Saaz hop. This OMB pours a beautiful light amber color with a thin-ish white head. You can really smell the Hop scent here on this with a nice grassy note. Smells just like a fresh hop field. Nice! This RPA has a moderately bitter taste about it. Not to much bitterness, just the right amount to make it great. Great for most any occasion. There is a very very faint spicy note on the finish along with a still moderate bitterness that finishes light and crisp. This beer is a good NEW brew for OMB and they have done it yet again, in making an awesome and tasty beer. I love this brewery and can not say enough good things about them. This RPA is part of a small growing trend of hoppy/bitter beers that have been hitting the market recently, after the height of IPA crazy hit, which is now not so popular as it once was. Now the trend is more toward less hop and more bitterness but too much bitter and it sour which is the next trend I think. But this hit the trend make well with its hybrid American pale ale and German lager ale. Great beer. Just the right amount of bitter in this one. Not too much, yet not to little. Good work OMB! Keep it up. I would by this again, have it over and over again, just like all the beers they brew. I love a good tasty OMB brew! Cheers! Please drink responsibly!

Throwback Thursday: RJ Rockers Brewing Son of a Peach

Originally posted on July 14, 2012

IMG_0896

Oh I love peaches, this sounds good, and it is! This here is an unfiltered wheat American ale made with really good peaches. This is 5.8% abv, mild but good. RJ Rockers hales out of Spartanburg South Carolina. Not so far from me here. SOP pours a nice cloudy golden slightly hazy color with a nice white head that makes nice lacing throughout the enjoyment of this brew. Nothing really neat or so different from all of the other fruit wheat ale. This has a normale wheaty scent, crisp and clean. There is a nice citrus peach scent there too that is quite good. No surprises there, just average and yet good. The taste is wheaty followed by a nice tart yet sweet peach flavor. That is very nice, crisp, refreshing, and tasty. Finish is still peachy and less wheaty but just as good as before. I don’t think this beer is something extra special or just plain special, I find this average among fruity wheat beer, but good. Yeah, I could sit here and tell you how many or how much peaches they put into this but that just isn’t that exciting, and yes the amount of peaches does make it good, but not overly good or better than others. But there is not a lot of peach beers out there on the market but some. Peaches are good for making beer with they are just the right amount of fruit flavor and sweetness to go well with the malt, hops, and barley. Average yes, good yes, refreshing yes. Would I buy this again? Yes! Would I recommend this? Yes? New favorite? Not really, but I like this enough to have another. Cheers! Please drink responsibly!

Boulevard Brewing Co. American Kolsh Köln Style Golden Ale.

IMG_5753

I haven’t had many Kolsches lately until I came across Boulevard Brewing Co. American Kolsch Köln Style Golden Ale, 4.6% ABV out of Kansas Missouri. American Kolsch pours a deep golden color with a one finger white head that fades into its self rather quickly giving off a dry sweetness with a faint crisp fruitiness that leads you down to a dry sweet taste with a little fruity note nothing really note-worthy on the tase, and American Kolsch finishes crisp and dry with a little sweetness and a light aftertaste of some sort of fake sweet fruit with a light mouthfeel. Overall Boulevard Brewing Co. American Kolsch Köln Style Golden Ale is not so bad but I’ve had better so I give it a C, yeah it’s just average tasting. Nothing really memorable with this beer, and I would not recommend this beer so much. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Delicious IPA pours a clear golden yellow color with an almost two finger white head with a slight/faint lemon aroma wafting to your nose with some bitterness that takes you into a faint lemon taste with a bit of citrus flavor in the middle and a bitter bite on the back of the mouth with more alcoholic bitter finish, and a light lemon aftertaste with a thin to almost medium mouthfeel  Overall the flavor of Delicious IPA is thin with more of an alcoholic flavor as it warms. I give Stone Brewing Delicious IPA a C-. Wasn’t what I call so delicious as the label might suggest, but wasn’t terrible. I wouldn’t have this beer again soon as I don’t recommend this Stone Brewing Delicious IPA. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!
