Pilsner

This beer is a traditional Geman Lager Pilsner from Gilde Brewery that dates back to 1546. This brewery is in Hannover, Germany. But they have a relatively new location here in Charlotte, North Carolina. This pilsner is 4.9%. This location is a beer hall and is the United States and probably the rest of North America’s import office. This beer is from Hannover. This beer pours a golden color with a two-finger white head. The aroma is sweet, with bread (biscuits) and light malts. The flavor is also bread, biscuits, light hops, and sweetness. The mouthfeel is light. Then this pilsner beer finishes nice and clean with crisp bread light, sweet flavor. This beer has a light bitter/sweet aftertaste that doesn’t linger. I am a big pilsner fan, and this is a solid delicious pilsner. I give Gilde Brewery Pilsner an A+. The flavor is slightly lighter than some pilsners have had, and that’s good. Druid Pils South is German-style Pilsner and the younger brother of Druid Pils, both by Heist Brewery here in Charlotte, North Carolina. This beer comes in at 4.5% ABV. This beer pours a typical yellow pilsner color with a thin one-finger fizzy white head. The aroma is semi-sweet and crisp. There is not much going on with the beer aroma. The taste is semi-sweet, crisp, and light white bread notes, thin and light. I did get a slight off-flavor of hoppy peppery notes that wasn’t so great. The mouthfeel is thin. There is not much there. Then comes a bitter finish. But it is a mild bitterness. The aftertaste is much but a crisp bitter cracker. This beer was not so great. I’d say that Druid Pils South a D+. Halfway through this beer, I might have given it a C-, but it got slightly worse through the second half. I don’t recommend you drink this. This beer from Oskar Blues Brewery is Mama’s Little Yella Pils. This is a 4.7% ABV Bohemian Pilsner. I reviewed this a long time ago. It has been so long that I can not remember when I did check it. This beer is a core beer offering from Oskar Blues. So you can find this all year round. I found this a my local Harris Teeter grocery store. This pilsner pours a yellow color with a four-finger white steady fading head that leaves behind patches of lacing. The aroma is biscuit grains, sweetness, with hoppy notes. The flavor is similar to the smell of this beer. There are bread grains, sweet notes, hoppy notes, and a crisp & clean flavor. The mouthfeel is light and refreshing. Then comes an aftertaste that is crisp sweet and hoppy. The aftertaste is sweet and hoppy but not as sweet. This is a solid pilsner from a good brewery. Mama’s Little Yella Pilsner is an A+ I have had a couple of pilsners where the flavor is sharper and better, but there are only two pilsners out there that are better. This beer here is a re-review of Highland Brewing Pilsner. I originally reviewed this three years ago. I’m re-reviewing this Pilsner because as your pallet grows and your taste can change. You might find something to be good then your palate grows more sophisticated. So let’s see how my pallet has grown. This beer is from Asheville, North Carolina, and is 5.5% ABV. This beer has all German hops. This Pilsner pours a golden yellow color with a one and a-quarter finger white head. The head quickly fizzles away to nearly nothing. The aromas are crisp, slightly hoppy, with a sweet note. The flavor is crisp with a light sweetness and bitter notes. The bitterness does take the beer’s overall flavor off a bit. This beer’s mouthfeel is light. Then this pilsner beer finishes with a bittersweetness. That bittersweetness does show itself in the aftertaste but in a lesser form. There is a breaded note aftertaste as well. I gave this Pilsner a B+ back then. Now aftertaste drinking it again. I would say it’s a C. The bitterness holds this back a bit. But it’s average, in my opinion. It’s a fine average Pilsner beer that I would have again, but this would not be my first choice, but I still drink it. Highland Brewing is underrated, in my opinion. I have not heard much of The Mason Jar Lager Co before, but I have seen Pull Tab Pilsner. I got this in a mixed six-pack recently. This beer is 4.7% ABV and is from Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina. This beer pours a yellow color with a one 1/2 finger white quick head. This beer’s aroma is dry, sweet, crisp, and clean. The flavor is dry as well, sweet, & bitter. The mouthfeel is light. Then this beer has an off-putting finish. It is bittersweet and awful. Then comes a quick aftertaste of terrible candy. This beer’s flavors are not getting along with one another. They don’t test well altogether. I found this beer to be awful. That sweetness that hits the back of the tongue is hard to get past. I couldn’t finish this beer. I only got to half before pouring the rest out. I’d give Pull Tab Pilsner an F+. It is okay until the beer hits the back of your tongue. The aftertaste doesn’t stay long at all. This German-style Pilsner, Pitchside Pils, 4.1%, is a beer to celebrate the Charlotte Football Club. This Pilsner is from NoDa Brewing Company in Charlotte, North Carolina. Pitchside Pils pours a gold color with a two-and-a-half finger white head. The head slowly fades away. The aroma is lightly sweet, fruity, bread, and crisp. The flavor is fruity, cracker, and crisp. The mouthfeel is light. Then this beer finishes light and refreshing with a fruitiness. The aftertaste is a light cracker. This beer is a good solid beer that gets an A+. I like the Pilsner style because every beer I see is either an IPA or a Hazy IPA. This Pils is the beer you want to have during a CLTFC match. This beer, Culture Pils Lager, 4.8% ABV, is a relatively new beer from Sugar Creek Brewing Company. It is brewed right here in Charlotte, North Carolina, and is a seasonal beer. Culture Pils won U.S. Beer Open 2020 gold medal. It pours a yellow color with a clean white two-finger head. The aroma of this beer is semi-sweet with a biscuity note. The flavor is a bit sweet as well. It also has a corn-like flavor with some biscuit notes. The mouthfeel is light. It then finishes clean and crisp. The aftertaste is semi-sweet and a little bread-like. Pilsners are quickly becoming my favorite beer style, and with a beer like Sugar Creek Brewing company Culture Pils Lager I can see why. This beer deserves an A-. It has good flavor and, it could be a little better. But I enjoy this beer and would have this again and again. I think you should too.
