Birdsong Brewing Co. Good Feeling Fruited Kettle Sour

Picked up Birdsong Brewing Co. Good Feeling Fruited Kettle Sour, 5.6% ABV from Pop the Top Bottle Shop here in Charlotte, North Carolina. Birdsong Brewing Co. Good Feeling Fruited Kettle Sour is brewed with cranberries and oranges, pours a light orange color with a one finger fizzy quickly fading white head that gives off tart fruity aromas with a bit of a sweetness hitting your nose that then takes you to a tart, sweet orange flavor with some nice tart candy like flavors with hints of a bit of sourness with a fruity tart semi sweet finish and a orange and faint cranberry after taste with a bit of sourness with a light mouthfeel. Birdsong Brewing Co. Good Feeling Fruited Kettle Sour overall is a good sour beer I don’t get to much of the cranberries but I g et more orange off this beer. I’d say that this Birdsong Brewing Co. Good Feeling Fruited Kettle Sour is an B+, it has a lot of similarities to most of the kettle sour beers out now but it still a good beer, but it just taste like a good sour beer nothing really outstanding with this beer but very good non the less. It is however a beer that I recommend you should try and one that I would definitely have again and could probably drink a few in one sitting. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Hi-Wire Brewing MountainTrue Apricot Blonde

Hi-Wire Brewing MountainTrue Apricot Blonde, 4.6% is a beer that gives a portion of its proceeds to help protect the mountain wildernesses that was released in August. Apricot Blonde pours a yellow orange juice color with a one and a half finger white head that slowly fades into itself leave good lacing behind giving off a slight faint tart fruity aroma that dives you into a light, faint tart fruity notes with a sour note coming through on the back to your tongue with a tart light sour finish and light tart fruit aftertaste with a light mouthfeel. This isn’t a sour style beer it is more in tune with a blonde ale and isn’t bad but it does wow your taste buds, It’s a B-. You don’t get large apricot flavors on this that more of a subtle flavor that goes as you get close to the bottom of Apricot Blonde. It’s also not overly tart nor sour so it easier to drink in that respect which makes Hi-Wire Brewing MountainTrue Apricot Blonde sessionable, and one that I would recommend. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Sugar Creek Brewing Company Big O Blood Orange India Pale Ale

Pick up this local Sugar Creek Brewing Big O India Pale Ale, 7% ABV from my local Harris Teeter grocery store. Big O is brewed California grown “Moro” blood Oranges, which pours an orange copper color with a three finger white head with aromas of big blood orange with some hoppy grapefruit notes intertwined into some fant pine notes that give you a big grapefruit flavor with some hoppy grapefruit with hints of sweetness and some pine notes that give a blood orange bitter sweet finish and a very similar aftertaste that really lingers behind with hints of a hoppy flavor with a light mouthfeel. Sugar Creek Brewing Big O India Pale Ale is so good, and is well deserving of an A+. It has a big blood orange flavor with enough bitter hops to help make it great and the flavor is not to extreme nor does it become overwhelming. Well balanced and well brewed Sugar Creek Brewing Big O India Pale Ale is one that I highly recommend trying! Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Moody Tongue Steeped Emperor’s Lemon Saison

Moody Tongue from Chicago Illinois, Steeped Emperor’s Lemon Saison 6.3% which I think is using Meyer lemons in this Saison, which pours an orange color with a two finger quickly receding white head that gives of a lemon effervescent with hints of sweet but slightly tart aromas with a flavor of some sour lemon notes with a touch of sweetness with a bright effervescent that causes the beer to turn from tart to sour in a bad way, then finishes with a faint lemon dish soap like flavor with a bitter sour off-putting lemon aftertaste with a lighter mouthfeel. This beer was terrible and the lemon flavors were more of a sour bitter mess then pretty much anything else. So Moody Tongue Steeped Emperor’s Lemon Saison is an F+, I did finish all twelve ounces but that doesn’t mean I enjoyed it nor would I recommend it. The lemon aspect was just not something resembling the taste of nice lemon and the Saison aspect wasn’t very Saison at all and when you put two bad things together it comes out to Moody Tongue Steeped Emperor’s Lemon Saison. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Tool Beer Ms. Velvet 2018 Edition

Tool Beer Ms. Velvet 2018 Edition, 9.0% ABV, from Denmark and brewed in De Proef Lochristi Belgium I picked up from Pop The Top Bottle Shop here in Charlotte. Ms. Velvet is blackcurrant & plum triple ale that pours a red/purple color with a one and a half finger thin white head that fades into a little halo with some lacing, with aromas of bright fruity notes, mostly dark fruits with some slightly alcoholic notes that take you to a dark fruit flavor with slight sour alcoholic notes with some bitterness on the back with a dry dark fruit finish and lingering sour/tart dark fruit dry aftertaste with a medium mouthfeel. I like this but I think it’s good as a sour fruit beer and okay just as a Belgian Tripel, I give Tool Beer Ms. Velvet 2018 Edition a B-. The tart dark fruits give this a nice refreshing quality and get through the 9.0% ABV but just a little. I would recommend this but after 3 or four pints you’d be over the fruit and the 9.0% ABV, But it’s a good beer for, just one or two. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly

Hallo Ich Bin Berliner Weisse Blood Orange

I pick up Mikkeller BeerHallo Ich Bin Berliner Weisse Blood Orange, 3.7% ABV from Pop The Top Bottle Shop here in charlotte a few weekends ago. Hallo Ich Bin Berliner Weisse come is a few varieties of fruit from Mikkeller Beer in Denmark. Hallo Ich Bin Berliner Weisse Blood Orange pours a yellow slightly cloudy color with a one finger white head that fades into quickly dissipating lacing that gives off fruity tart aromas with a little note of sourness that then leads you to a similar to the aroma taste with a bit more fruity tart/sour notes with a finish of blood orange tart fruity flavor and bits of a sour/tart fruit aftertaste with a somewhat light mouthfeel. I have had a few of this Hallo Ich Bin Berliner Weisse beer and I find that the Blood Orange verity to be the best so far seeing that I’ve not had everyone that Mikkeller Beer brewers. So I say that Hallo Ich Bin Berliner Weisse Blood Orange is a an A+, you really get all the blood orange and Weisse flavor on this Hallo Ich Bin Berliner Weisse beer and none seem to mesh badly with each other, then all blend together well for a well brewed beer. I found it to be a really refreshing beer and one beer that I could have a six pack of, and yes I would highly recommend Hallo Ich Bin Berliner Weisse Blood Orange. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Birdsong Brewing Company O.P.P. Pale Ale with Pineapple

Birdsong Brewing Company O.P.P. Pale Ale with Pineapple, 5.8% ABV, another purchase from Pop The Top Bottle Shop ands is brewed with Simcoe, and Cascade hops. O.P.P. (Other Peoples Pineapple) pours a hazy yellow with an almost two finger creamy white head that stays cream with nice cream lacing that give off a slight bitter tropical aroma with little to no pineapple notes that flow in to a taste of light fruity tropical flavors with not much pineapple with a bit of a creamy texture and a sharp bitter note in the middle and on the back of the mouth that finishes a little creamy with a sharp bitter fruity note with a bitter light fruit aftertaste with a light yet creamy mouthfeel. This beer advertised that it was tropical with pineapple and I really didn’t get any of that. But what I did get was okay, C+. I always like Birdsong Brewing beers but this was slightly off their mark, and yes I might have O.P.P. again and probably recommend this pale ale but not if you like pineapple. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Throwback Thursday: Sierra Nevada Sidecar Orange Pale Ale

Originally posted March 13th, 2017

I love oranges so would I like this Sierra Nevada Sidecar Orange Pale Ale, 5.3% ABV? Well I like the original Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. So lets see! Sierra Nevada Sidecar is a newer year round offering. Sierra Nevada Sidecar pours a light top medium copper color with a two and a half finger head of white that fades at a steady pace leaving behind some minimal lacing. The aroma is orange/orange juice of course with orange peel, orange seeds. There is a faint pine yet earthy notes. Taste is much the same as it smells on the nose, there is the orange/ orange juice, orange peel and seeds with a pale ale earth and slight pine on the back of the mouth. But this Sidecar is more orange than anything. The mouth feel is light to slightly medium and finishes with a faint bitter orange flavor that leaves the same juicy after taste that lingers until you take another sip. Overall Sierra Nevada Sidecar orange Pale Ale is great, it get an A. It has a big orange flavor with a little bit of pale ale flavors towards the end that make it a great drinking beer. Sierra Nevada Sidecar is something that you’d want again and again. The flavor does not overpowering your palate. It has the right amount of balance to it. I do like Sierra Nevada Sidecar Orange Pale Ale, and I recommend it! Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Mikkeller Beer Hallo Ich Bin Berliner Weisse (Pineapple)

Pick up Mikkeller Beer Hallo Ich Bin Berliner Weisse (Pineapple), 3.7% ABV from Pop The Top Craft Beer Shop here in Charlotte this weekend. The gypsy brewers Mikkeller Beer brew this with lots of different fruits and I’ve had their Passion Fruit before and I picked up the blood orange verity. Hallo Ich Bin Berliner Weisse (Pineapple) pours a bright hazy yellow with a two finger quickly fading head that leaves very little lacing and gives off a tart sweet fruit pineapple aroma that leads into a taste of nice tart tropical pineapple with a touch of sweetness and a slight sour note on the back of the mouth with a nice tart fruity finish and a slightly sour tropical pineapple aftertaste with a light mouthfeel. This Hallo Ich Bin Berliner Weisse (Pineapple) does not have a big pineapple presence but it’s still tasty and worth a B. The tart notes come in right after you get a hit of pineapple flavor that keeps the pine from really shinning though. Overall a good tasty beer but just could have a little more pineapple, and this is one I would recommend trying. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Foothills Brewing Tangled Vine Berry Rosé Ale

Purchased Foothills Brewing Tangled Vine Berry Rosé, 4.4% ABV from my local Harris Teeter grocery store in a six-pack. Tangled Vine is part of a trend in the beer and wine industry where Rose style beers and wine is very popular at the moment and is brewed cranberries, sour cherries, and strawberries. Tangled Vine pours light pink almost orange hued color with a half finger white head that quickly fades into a very little halo giving off aromas off tart strawberry fruit that is a bit sour that then leads you to a dry tart strawberry sour taste that has a very small sweet note on the back of the mouth that finishes dry with strawberry tart notes and a dry tart strawberry fruit aftertaste with a light mouthfeel. Overall this does taste like Rosé and this would be something I recommend giving to anyone that is more of a wine drinker but would like to have a beer, and with that I find Foothills Brewing Tangled Vine Berry Rosé Ale to be a C. It has very light flavors that aren’t bad but not the best and while it is refreshing and light the flavors aren’t that memorable. It would be a beer I’d recommend but not one you need to try as soon as possible. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly.
