Hopfly Brewing Co. One More Bite (OMB) Fruited Sour

I purchased Hopfly Brewing Co. One More Bite (OMB) Fruited Sour, 6.3% ABV from Pop The Top because of the label mostly and a little because of the contents. One More Bite is brewed in Rocky Mount, North Carolina with Strawberry, Vanilla, and Lactose. Judging this beer by its label I think they are going for a strawberry shortcake here. One More Bite pours light orange color with a faint red tint to it and with a two-finger fizzy head that fades into a light right with minimal lacing throughout. The aroma is nice with a strawberry sweetness, adding sweet aromas from the vanilla, OMB has more of a Fruity Pebbles aroma to it. There is a nice sweet strawberry flavor to it upfront with a little light tartness, the vanilla and the lactose cut the tart fruity flavors. The fruity sweet finish is good with a nice Fruity Pebbles cereal aftertaste is awesome all with a lighter mouthfeel. Hopfly Brewing Co. One More Bite (OMB) Fruited Sour is one good fruited sour beer, well deserving of an A+. It’s not really a strawberry shortcake, more of a fruity sugary cereal which is great and something very interesting to try. I recommend trying Hopfly Brewing Co. One More Bite (OMB) Fruited Sour Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

D 9 Brewing Company Swell Rider Tangerine Session Ale

D9 Brewing Company Sewell Rider Tangerine Session Ale, 5.1% ABV picked up from Total Wine and is brewed in Cornelius, North Carolina with Tangerines. Sweet Rider pours an orange color with a two-finger quickly fading white head with sweet tangerine aromas that have a slight yet faint tart note. The flavor is pretty much what you see on the label, big tangerine sweet flavor with a very faint tartness and finishes sweet with tangerine and a slight tart tangerine aftertaste with a light mouthfeel. D9 Brewing Company Sewell Rider Tangerine Session Ale is basically a tangerine fruit bomb, all up in your mouth attacking your taste buds. If you love tangerine then Swell Rider is your kind of beer, so go for it. I don’t love tangerines, but I find that to be good. This beer is a B-, after a while, the tangerine flavor is basically too much, but it’s good for two pints in my opinion and yeah could see myself going back to this especially on a hot day. It is a really refreshing beer. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly

Lenny Boy Brewing Co. Tangerine Dreamz Witbier

Lenny Boy Brewing Co. Tangerine Dreamz Witbier, 5.2% ABV purchased from Total Wine is brewed with Tangerines, Lacotose (sugar), Chamomile, & Coriander. Tangerine Dreamz pours yellow with a tow finger tin white head with a sweet tangerine citrus aroma with a floral note. Flavor/taste is similar to Tangerine Dreamz aroma with a tangerine sweet citrus with floral notes that are slightly bitter kind of like a perfume with a citrus floral finish that is bittersweet with an much similar perfume aftertaste with a l,I got mouthfeel. This beer has too much floral flavors going along side the tangerine here for not so great overall flavor that get a D+. The tangerine notes do help it a little bit but not enough. The floral perfume flavor holds Lenny Boy Brewing Co. Tangerine Dreamz Witbier down. I don’t think you should try this beer. I won’t! Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Firestone Walker Brewing Company Rosalie Beer Rosé

I picked up Firestone Walker Brewing Company Rosalie Beer Rosé, 5.0% ABV a couple of weeks ago after sampling it at Total Wine. This is riding a wave of popularity with Rosé, yes it’s gotten to the beer business. But I think this trend may be stagnant for now. Rosalie is brewed with Hibiscus and wine grapes and pours much like a Rosé wine color, pinkish-red with a thin/clear half a finger head that fizzy away instantly leaving you with sweet red grape aroma with hints of green apple and little floral aroma that invites you to the taste that is much like a light Rosé with a floral fruity (red grape) light tart sweetness that is open the lighter side of sweetness, a finish of a night but light sweetness and a faint tropical floral and red grape aftertaste with a light mouthfeel. Rosalie has a taste much like Rosé wine, and this would be something I would bring to a summer party/barbecue. It is super easy to drink and can be offered to a wine drinker that like Rosé wine. I think it’s D+, just somewhat below average. You really start to pick up a tartness after several that tartness lingers in your mouth after about four or five. But I think that Firestone Walker Brewing Company Rosalie Beer Rosé is in a somewhat interesting trend within craft beer, and it’s worth a try. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

New Sarum Salisbury Brewing Co. Pink Cheeks Rosé Gose

New Sarum Salisbury Brewing Co. Pink Cheeks Rosé Gose, 5.0% ABV local brewed in Salisbury North Carolina is brewed with Rosebuds, Hibiscus, Coriander, Hawaiian Red Sea Salt, melon purée and Barba Rouge Hops. It has a lot going on. Pink Cheeks pours a light orange somewhat copper color with a one finger thin white head that has briny salted aromas with a light fruity sweetness that has a tart aromatic quality to it. You get a salted briny sweetness that is light and fruity with a tartness around the middle and the back of the mouth with a faint floral note that all finishes with a tart fruity floral note and a salty fruity aftertaste with a nice bit of tartness and a light mouthfeel. I think the rose buds on this on not something I like, I’ve had beers with that ingredient in them before and I’ve had similar feeling toward them, but everything else about New Sarum Salisbury Brewing Co. Pink Cheeks Rosé Gose is okay, getting a C. Pink Cheeks is average, and the rose flavors held it to a C. It is something I would have again but not soon and if your curious then maybe you should try it! Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

left Hand Brewing Company Push Pop Party Nitro

left Hand Brewing Company Push Pop Party Nitro, 5.4% ABV from Longmont Colorado is brewed with Rocky Mountain water, malted barley, mandarin oranges, limes, lactose, hops, and yeast with nitrogen in the can which gives this beer a draft quality from the can. Left Hand Brewing Company has many beers with nitro, but this is the first I have seen with nitro that isn’t a stout. The Brewery says to pour this beer like a pro I did not pour this delicately. Push Pop Party Nitro pours a deep yellow to orange color with a cascading thick creamy tight white snowy two finger head with sweet fruity citrus aromas of lime and orange. Taste is light, silky, creamy like with nice citrus limes and mandarin oranges that goes down easy with a smooth citrus fruit finish and a silky aftertaste of limey orange cream with a light mouthfeel. left Hand Brewing Company Push Pop Party Nitro is much like a refreshing fruity push pop and gets an A-. Push Pop Party Nitro does have that draft felling to it but the nitro does have a different fruit flavor to the beer if it didn’t have nitrogen. It has a faint Sorbet quality to it that isn’t bad. This is a beer that is worth trying and good on a hot day. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Throwback Thursday: Shiner Ruby Redbird

Originally posted June 6th, 2012

Shiner has made another great beer! Yes, I love a good Shiner. This is a nice summer seasonal brewed with Texas Ruby Red grapefruit juice and lovely ginger, at 4.01% abv. These two pair well together. Ruby pours nice golden orange color with a nice head of white that laces nicely as you enjoy this Redbird. The aroma is of nice citrus fruit that has a tangy sweet scent. It reminds me of a fresh grapefruit. The scent of this is very inviting, nice and pleasant. Ruby has a nice sweet and tangy flavor that is of citrus fruit and then there is a nice pleasant kick of tangy ginger that finishes nice and tart. The is beer is sweet at first but finishes nice and tart, and isn’t bitter like a grapefruit. This is a bit sweet than an average grapefruit, but not much though, just a tad, a bit, just smidge. This is a very well balanced beer that is crisp refreshing and very drinkable. I have always liked this and always look forward to having one when it arrives at the stores. Neither of the two ginger or grapefruit overpowers one another, the work well perfectly and make for one great big taste when combined here. Ruby is very very refreshing, even on the hottest of days when you see heat waves off the road. Yes, you can see that just drive on a Texas highway in July. I get all happy when I have this, I feel relaxed and I welcome the warm summertime to come. This is on my favorites list, and it should be on yours! Cheers! Please drink responsibly!

NoDa Brewing Company Passion Fruit Gose Beer

NoDa Brewing Company Passion Fruit Gose Beer, 4.0% ABV purchased from Pop The Top Craft Beer Shop is a beer in the Gose style, an old German style that was once on the brink of being nonexistent, but now Gose style can be easily found in thanks to the many craft brewers who have brought it back into popularity. Passion Fruit Gose brewed right here locally in Charlotte, North Carolina pours a light yellow color with a one finger white head that fades a quick pace giving off fruit aromas of citrus fruits with a nice sour note. Taste is tropical with citrus fruit with a faint/light sweetness that turns tart with hints of sour notes with a few briny notes coming in on the back, that finishes tart briny with tropical citrus flavor with a briny citrus aftertaste that is mildly tart with a somewhat light mouthfeel. NoDa Brewing Company Passion Fruit Gose Beer is good but I think there is better Gose beer out there, not to say that this one is bad it’s a B+ beer. The passion fruit adds a bit more tropical flavors to a beer that I already consider tropical or like a tart margarita. NoDa Brewing Company Passion Fruit Gose Beer does, however, have more of a little tart flavor than some Gose beers out there but that doesn’t really keep it from a good status. Yeah, I think that this is one beer that many can be consumed and you should try it! Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Catawba Brewing Co. Peach of Mind Farmhouse Ale

Peaches are probably my favorite thing so when I spotted Catawba Brewing Co. Peach of Mind Farmhouse Ale, 4.5% at the local grocery store I had to give it a try. Preach of Mind brewed in Morganton, North Carolina is a Grisette style of a Farmhouse Ale. Grisette literally means little gray and refers to the gray stones that the miners dug through or the gray-clad women that served this type of ale the mine workers. Peach of Mind pours a light orange and faint peachy color with a one finger fizzy white head with musty light peachy fruit aromas. The taste on Peach of Mind has a light sweetness of peaches with a nice musty flavor with some yeast noted popping in and finishes with a faint and yet light peach flavor and finding to give an aftertaste that is semi-sweet with hints of musty fruit with a light mouthfeel. I don’t get a ton of peach on this and that’s okay, too much would be overwhelming on the taste buds. Catawba Brewing Co. Peach of Mind Farmhouse Ale has a nice amount of peach flavor to give you the essence of peaches and not to overpower this Grisette. Catawba Brewing Co. Peach of Mind Farmhouse Ale is a solid B. It does go down easy with a great deal of refreshing, and it can do that over and over and over. Yes, you should try Catawba Brewing Co. Peach of Mind Farmhouse Ale. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Edmund’s Oast Brewing Co. Sour Cherry Pineapple

This Edmund’s Oast Brewing Co. Cherry Pineapple, 6.5% ABV is an American Sour Ale from Charleston, South Carolina I picked up from Pop The Top Craft Beer Shop. Sour Cherry Pineapple pours a Robitussin bright red color with a thin one and a quarter pink head that quickly fades into itself, with big sour tart cherry fruits. Smells okay but no pineapple. The flavor is similar to the aroma with tart and sour cherry with a very light/faint tropical note on the middle of the tongue still no pineapple then you get a sour cherry cough medicine that slowly fades into an effervescent tart Maraschino Cherry finish with a tart sour sugar cherry aftertaste and a light mouthfeel. I found Edmund’s Oast Brewing Co. Cherry Pineapple to have a weird cherry flavor without getting any pineapple with a medicinal quality to it. I give Edmund’s Oast Brewing Co. Cherry Pineapple a D-, I did finish this and it was not very heavy or way too sour, but not very good otherwise so do not try this! Please enjoy responsibly!
