The Bruery Mischief Hoppy Belgian-Style Ale

I purchased Mischief hoppy Belgian-style ale from The Citizens Public Market in downtown Culver City (Los Angeles), California. This beer is 8.5% ABV and is made by The Bruery in Placentia, California. This year-round dry-hopped beer won the 2016 Gret American Beer Festival for American-Belgo-Style Ale. Mischief pours a golden color with a big three-finger clean white head. The head is slow to dissolve. The aroma is Belgian esters, fruity (citrus, melon, and pair), resin, and hoppy notes. The flavor is fruity, light yeast, citrus, melon, and pair. The flavor is also a little bitter/hoppy. This beer has a fuller feel in the mouth. Then this Belgian-style beer comes with a hoppy fruit finish. Then you get a nice light-hopped fruit finish with a touch of some Belgian yeast. This is a delicious beer that I rarely see back in Charlotte, North Carolina. I give The Bruery Mischief Hoppy Belgian-Style Ale an A+. This should be on your list of beers to drink. It has the right amount of hoppy Belgian flavors. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

St. Bernardus ABT 12

This is ABT 12 from St. Bernardus Brewery. This is the last out of their mixed six-pack. This is a quadruple, coming in at 10% ABV. This beer would be great with rich beef dishes. I suggest a good pastrami or corned beef/Rubin sandwich. You can also pair this with blue cheese/Roquefort. This ABT 12 would be an unexpected pleasure with some chocolate. This quad beer pours a deep brown/burgundy color with a two-finger beige head. The aroma is of dark fruits like raisins, dates, and plums. There are sweetness and malt aromas. The taste is of plums, dates, and raisins. The flavor is strong, sweet, smooth, and malted. This beer has a full feeling in the mouth. Then ABT 12 finishes with a smooth, sweet, and malted flavor. The aftertaste is smooth, and somewhat sweet from the dark fruits. St. Bernardus ABT 12 is an A. This is nearly as good as Chimay’s Quadruple Ale. That is probably the best, and ABT 12 is a close second. I do recommend this beer! Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

St. Bernardus Tripel

This is St. Bernardus Tripel from the brewery mix pack. This beer is 8% ABV. This Tripel would be a great addition to poultry or most savory snacks. This beer pours a golden yellow with a bright white head. The aroma is fruity, banana, and sweet. The flavor is light spiced, fruity, banana, sweet, and smooth. This does not taste like an 8% beer. This has a fuller feel in the mouth. This beer has a sweet yet smooth banana finish. There is a lighter banana aftertaste that lingers for a bit. The flavor overall is exemplary and delicious. I highly recommend this beer to anyone. I’d give St. Bernardus Tripel an A. This beer’s 8% ABV does not reflect how strong this beer is. It does not drink like an 8% beer. It is smooth, and delicious, with fine fruit and effervescents. So try this one and you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Flights

Flights are a great way to sample a variety of different beers whether you are at a brewery or in a bar. You should always sample left to right as if you were reading. Lightest in color/ alcohol by volume (ABV) to darkest in color/ABV. Having a flight is a great way to train your palate for tasting. I had Fonta Flora Pocket Lunch, Rhino Market A Very Rhino IPA, Foothills Brewing Happyum Imperial IPA, and Font Flora Wolf Spit Baltic-Style Porter. Go check out all the reviews on this blog. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

St. Bernardus Wit

St. Bernardus Wit, a wheat beer, is the second to last beer in from the St. Bernardus mixed six-pack. There is one left. This beer is 5.5% ABV. This St. Bernardus Wit is traditionally unfiltered. This beer can practically be paired with almost any recipe anywhere in the world. But This beer is best with creamy dishes, like risotto with shellfish and white fish. This wit beer pours a brighter yellow color with a bright two-finger white head. The aroma is light spices, fruity notes, and sweet/sour. The flavor is similar to its aroma, fruit flavors, spices, sweetness, and light spices. This beer is lighter on the palate. This beer comes with a smooth fruit finish with some sourness. The aftertaste is sweet/tart, with light fruits. This is a delicious and refreshing beer that gets an A+. I recommend that you drink this Wit beer if you haven’t already. It has all the great flavors of a well-brewed Wit, and they meld together for a super delicious beer. please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

St. Bernardus Brewery Prior 8

This is yet another beer from the St. Bernardus Brewery mixed six-pack. This beer is Prior 8, a Belgian Dubble. This beer is 8% ABV. This beer pours a deep chestnut brown color with a two-finger beige head. The aroma is sweet with dark fruits and light licorice. The flavor is dark fruits (raisins, apricots, and plumbs), sweetness, and a malt flavor. This beer has a medium feel on the mouth. This beer has a malty dark finish. Then it has a maly dark fruit aftertaste that lingers less with the fruit and more with the malts. This is a good beer, one that is an A+. I recommend this beer with a rich meat dish or stew. This beer is good. One that is not to be missed. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

St. Bernardus Brewery Pater 6

This beer, Pater Six, is an Abby Dubble from St. Bernardus and is another in their mixed six-pack. This beer is 6.7% ABV. This recipe dates back to 1946. This beer pours a chestnut brown with a two-finger light beige head. The aroma is lightly nutty, sweet, malty, and overall light. The flavor is sweet and dark, malty, and smooth. Then this beer finishes with a light malt flavor and some sweetness. The light sweetness carries over into the aftertaste with some malt characteristics. This beer has a light overall flavor, and that gives it an A. I think Chimay dubble is slightly better than this. I would still recommend this St. Bernardus Pater 6. It would go well with pork dishes and zesty cheeses. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

St. Bernardus Brewery Extra 4

This St. Bernardus Extra 4 is a Enkel/Patersbier. This is a single or lightest beer from St. Bernardus. I saw this also to be known as a Belgian Pale Ale. This beer is 4.8% ABV. I bought this in Florida over the weekend as a mixed S. Bernardus six-pack. This package has six different individual beers that the brewery makes. This particular beer pours a yellow color with a one-and-a-half-finger bright white head. The aroma is citrus fruit, with cloves, spices, and light pepper. The flavor is citrus fruits, spices (coriander and pepper), dry, light cloves, and also light on the hops. This one has a medium feel on the mouth. Then this beer finishes with a dry, yeasty fruity, hop flavor that lingers. It lingers more with the dry yeast notes. Then you’ll come to a dry aftertaste with some hop notes. This is an A+ beer from one of the best breweries in the world. I highly recommend Extra 4 from St. Bernardus. This is a beer you don’t want to miss. It is really deliciously refreshing. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Birdsong Brewing Co. Jalapeño Pale Ale

I have had Jalapeño Pale Ale from Birdsong Brewing Co. many times. I haven’t reviewed this beer. I really can’t believe that. This pale ale is brewed with jalapeños that have most of the seed removed. The seed of the jalapeño is where the capsaicin or the heat is. The idea behind removing the jalapeño seed is to give very little to no heat and more of a vegetal flavor. This pale ale pours a deep yellow with a two-finger white head. The aroma is vegetal, bitter, and jalapeño spice. The flavor is a jalapeño vegetal spice/heat, bitterness, and a faint hop flavor. The feeling is light in the mouth. Then comes a lightly spicy jalapeño finish that has minimal bitterness. The aftertaste is vegetal with light bittering notes. Birdsong Jalapeño Pale Ale is a unique beer I love and give an A+. I could have a few pints of this with spicy nachos or chicken wings. I highly recommend this beer! Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Edmund’s Oast Brewing Company Cereal For Dinner

I first reviewed this beer, Cereal For Dinner, back in 2020 at the end of May. I thought I would review this beer again because I keep seeing this everywhere. This beer is by Edmunds Oast Brewing Co. in Charleston, South Carolina. This beer comes in at 5.5% ABV and has almonds, vanilla, Lactose, and coconut. This ale pours yellow with a two-finger steady head. The aroma is vanilla-sweet and nutty. The flavor is also vanilla, coconut, and smooth. The flavor of this beer is nutty but slightly nuttier than its aroma. This beer feels light on the mouth. Then you come to a finish of sweet vanilla nuttiness with some fake or artificial coconut. The aftertaste is sweet and nothing more. This beer is not overly sweet overall. That’s good because blonde beer that is sweet shouldn’t be. This ale has the right amount of sweetness with a bit of a nutty flavor. I give Cereal For Dinner a B+. This beer has plain vanilla and not a more exotic type of vanilla. If it did, I would probably rate this higher. I recommend that you drink this beer. It is good. This beer is good enough to have a few. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!
