Burial Beer Co. A Disease of Virtuous People West-Coast India Pale Ale (Dream Candy Edition)

Burial Beer Co. is one of my favorite, if not my favorite breweries. This is Burial Beer Co. A Disease of Virtuous People West-Coast India Pale Ale (Dream Candy Edition). This IPA is Whirlpooled with Cryo. Double dry-hopped with Simcoe, Riwaka, and Cascade, is 7% ABV. Burial stirs in a little Dream Candy. This means they had a little marijuana while this beer was being made, I’m guessing from what I found on the side of the can and the Burial website. This IPA pours yellow with a two-finger white head. The aroma is piney, tropical, sweet, and clean. The flavor isn’t far from its aroma. This beer tastes bitter, piney, tropical fruits (a little bit of melon), breaded, sweet, and clean. The mouthfeel has a light creamy feel. Then this IPA finishes clean, with a bit of sweet bitterness. The aftertaste is faint tropical fruits with a nice bittering note. The faint tropical flavor fades as the bitter notes linger. This, A Disease of Virtuous People West-Coast India Pale Ale (Dream Candy Edition) is very delicious and gets an A. Don’t miss out on this Burial Beer. It has a wonderful piney bitter and tropical flavor that is refreshing and good. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Sugar Creek Brewing Company Big Hazy O India Pale Ale

This is a newer beer from the fine people at Sugar Creek Brewing Company. Big Hazy O is a Hazy version of the very tasty Big O IPA. This beer is 6.7% and has Blood oranges, Citra, Simcoe, and Mosaic hops. Their Big O doesn’t have Simcoe hops. This is a core Sugar Creek beer. This IPA pours a hazy yellow with a one-and-a-half-finger white head. The aroma is blood orange fruit, bitter, and it’s juicy. The flavor is juicy with blood oranges and has a hoppy bitterness that is a bit hazy on your tongue. This has a litter feel on/in the mouth. The finish is orangey, slightly candy-like with a nice bitterness. The aftertaste is bitter with juicy oranges. This Big Hazy O is somewhat better than its non-hazy counterpart. This Big Hazy O is an A. The fruit flavors really make this beer great. This is one IPA worth having. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Kabrew Kumiho IPA

I purchased the other beer at the Super G Mart international grocery store. This is Kabrew Kumiho IPA. This IPA is produced near the  Cheongpyeong-myeon, Sangcheon-ri, and Sangsaek-ri, with Cheongusan Mountain to the west and Bulgi Mountain to the east. This IPA is 6.3% ABV. This beer pours a deep orange color with a light one-finger beige head. The aroma is bitter, orange, hops, and malty. This smells like a more traditional IPA. The taste is orangey, light pine, bitter, and hoppy. It has an overly bitter flavor that as this beer warms that bitterness intensifies. This has a medium feeling in the mouth. This IPA has a somewhat harsh bitter finish. The aftertaste is a bitter orange that does linger. This has a harsh flavor that is not good. Kumiho IPA is a low D-. I nearly finished this beer. By the time I was 90% through this IPA, the bitterness had become too strong, and I just couldn’t finish. I really don’t recommend Kumiho IPA. Don’t drink this! Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

New Belgium Brewing Voodoo Ranger Hop Raider IPA

Here is another from the New Belgium Brewing Voodoo Ranger IPA mixed twelve pack. This IPA is Hop Raider IPA. This beer is 8.1% ABV. This beer pours a deep gold color with a two-finger white head. The aroma is malty, bitter, and light with tropical fruits. There is melons, and pineapples amorous. The taste is Pineapple and melon. There is a malty flavor, pine, and bitterness. This IPA comes with a pine, malt, and bitter finish. The aftertaste is a malty pine flavor that lingers a bit. This is okay, not the best. I give Hop Raider IPA a C+. The tropical fruit clashes with the malt and pine flavors. I didn’t like that. But those flavors on their own are not too bad. Would I recommend this? Just barely. I don’t think I would go back to this right away. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

New Belgium Brewing Voodoo Ranger Hop Average IPA

A neighbor of mine gave me a mixed twelve-pack of New Belgium Brewing Voodo Ranger IPAs. This one is Hop Avenger IPA. This IPA is 7.7% ABV. Voodo Ranger is a beer line from New Belgium Brewing in Fort Collins, Colorado. This IPA pours a light orange color with a two-finger white head. There is sediment in this beer. I don’t know if that is supposed to be there and if that is bits of fruit. I didn’t find any information. This IPA has a citrus aroma of orange, and grapefruit There is a light pineapple and bitter aromas. The flavor is orange, grapefruit, pineapple, and bitter. This has a medium feeling in the mouth. This IPA has a bitter fruity finish. The aftertaste is bitterness and orange. This is okay. I found this to have a more dominant orange flavor to it. I would say Hop Averager IPA is a C, just barely. The orange clashed a bit with the beer bitterness. I can’t say I would or wouldn’t recommend this. This beer wasn’t terrible nor was it good. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Sugar Creek Brewing Company Path to Enlightenment West-Coast IPA

We’re back after nearly a month off. I have been participating in dry January. No alcohol or non-alcoholic stuff. I find NA beer to be no good. This local Charlotte, North Carolina beer from Sugar Creek Brewing Company, Path to Enlightenment West-Coast IPA. This is a new beer from Sugar Creek that is 7% ABV. It won the bronze medal for American IPA at the 2023 U.S. Open Beer Championship. This IPA has a combination of Mosaic and Simcoe hops. This IPA pours a golden color with a one-finger white head. The head does quickly fade in decent lacing. The aroma is citrusy, grassy, little malt note, and hoppy. The flavor is where the malt is more pronounced, and you’ll find grapefruit, citrus, and grassy notes. The bitter/hoppy notes are more on the back of the tongue and as it passes the tongue. The beer has a medium feel in the mouth. Then this IPA finishes with a bitter, gassy, grapefruit flavor. The aftertaste is a bit like a malty grapefruit that lingers for a bit before fading as you take the next sip. This west-coast IPA is very similar to others in this beer style. The malt notes do help this beer stand out a bit, giving this Path to Enlightenment West-Coast IPA a B. I do recommend this beer if you are an IPA fan. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

The beer is Elated Winter IPA from Hi-Wire Brewing in Asheville, North Carolina. It is 6.2% ABV with Michigan Chinook and Idaho 7 hops. This beer is a wintertime seasonal beer. Elated IPA pours a darker orange color with a marshmallow white two-and-a-quarter finger head. The head is slow to fade. The aroma is piney, citrusy, orange peel, and bitter. Then it has a piney bitter citrusy finish. Then comes an aftertaste of bitter pine with light citrus fruit. This Elated Winter IPA was good and reminded me of a more traditional IPA. This winter IPA is an A-. The malt and pine notes could have been a little more pronounced. Other than that it was good. I recommend Elated Winter IPA. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!
