NoDa Brewing Company Passion Fruit Gose Beer

NoDa Brewing Company Passion Fruit Gose Beer, 4.0% ABV purchased from Pop The Top Craft Beer Shop is a beer in the Gose style, an old German style that was once on the brink of being nonexistent, but now Gose style can be easily found in thanks to the many craft brewers who have brought it back into popularity. Passion Fruit Gose brewed right here locally in Charlotte, North Carolina pours a light yellow color with a one finger white head that fades a quick pace giving off fruit aromas of citrus fruits with a nice sour note. Taste is tropical with citrus fruit with a faint/light sweetness that turns tart with hints of sour notes with a few briny notes coming in on the back, that finishes tart briny with tropical citrus flavor with a briny citrus aftertaste that is mildly tart with a somewhat light mouthfeel. NoDa Brewing Company Passion Fruit Gose Beer is good but I think there is better Gose beer out there, not to say that this one is bad it’s a B+ beer. The passion fruit adds a bit more tropical flavors to a beer that I already consider tropical or like a tart margarita. NoDa Brewing Company Passion Fruit Gose Beer does, however, have more of a little tart flavor than some Gose beers out there but that doesn’t really keep it from a good status. Yeah, I think that this is one beer that many can be consumed and you should try it! Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Flying Fish Brewing Co. Salt and Sea Session Sour Ale

Brewed with strawberry and lime Flying Fish Brewing Co. Salt and Sea, 4.3% a session sour from Somerdale New Jersey, which Flying Fish claims to have enticing aromas of saltwater taffy. Salt and Sea pours a light golden color with a one half finger white head and with sour, tart, fruity aromas with faint semi-sweet notes as well. Taste is similarly the aroma with tart fruity sour notes of light strawberry and lime with nice salty touches, but is it like saltwater taffy? Well a little but not entirely. Salt and Sea finish tart with light fruity sour notes with a medium salted tart aftertaste with a light mouthfeel that is all refreshing. Flying Fish Brewing Co. Salt and Sea is well deserving of an A. I found Flying Fish Brewing Co. Salt and Sea to have enough flavor to convey what’s they were going for, and yes I would recommend it. It is well balanced, refreshing and easy to drink. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Gizmo Beer Works Gizmo Gose Wild Strawberry Gose Ale

Gizmo Beer works from Raleigh, North Carolina produces this Gizmo Gose Wild Strawberry Gose Ale, 4.3% ABV which was purchased from Total Wine. Strawberry Gose Ale pours a light yellow cloudy color with a one and half finger white head with salty yet sweet strawberry notes with a nice fresh tartness. The salt does overshadow the strawberry flavors a bit but not too much, and overall Gizmo Beer Works Gizmo Gose Wild Strawberry Gose Ale is actually good, B+ to be exact, and it’s a nice spring/summer beer. You get the right amount of strawberry and salty Gose that ties it all together is a good refreshing beer that I think you should try! Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Mikkeller Brewing San Diego Passion Pool

Pick up Mikkeller Brewing San Diego Passion Pool, 5.0% ABV from Winestore here in Charlotte a few days ago. Passion Pool is a Gose style ale brewed with Passionfruit and Sea Salt from Mikkeller in San Diego California. I find that the Gose Style is a great summer weather beer. Passion Pool pours a dirty yellow color with a two finger white head with nice retention giving tart tropical fruity, sour salted aromas on your nose. Taste pretty much follows the nose with nice tart tropical fruits up front with nice salted sour notes on the middle of the tongue and nice funky notes on the back with a nice tart, salted sour finish that is a bit fruity and has a nice salty tart tropical aftertaste with a light mouthfeel. This is definitely a summer beer that can be easily drank anywhere and probably would go great with a good taco or two. Mikkeller Brewing San Diego Passion Pool is very refreshing and well deserving of an A. I just cannot find a thing wrong with Mikkeller Brewing San Diego Passion Pool, and I think you won’t either. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Throwback Thursday: Watermelon Gose

Originally posted Monday, September 19th, 2016.

Gose (Goes-uh) is a traditional German-style beer brewed with sea salt and coriander. Gose is a making a come back especially with craft beer breweries and brewers. It is more of a summer type of beer, but I think it is good any time of the year. One of my favorite breweries Terrapin Beer Co. in Athens Georgia brews Watermelon Gose, 4.5% ABV.  Watermelon Gose pours a clear darker golden color with a fast fading two finger head of brilliant white. The aroma is tart and there is a nice watermelon fragrance with a faint hint of coriander. Taste is somewhat sweet with watermelon up front with a bit of salted tart flavor, but then as it passed over your tongue it the beer become a more tart. Nothing that is overly tart though. The mouthfeel is light and refreshing and Watermelon Gose has a tart watermelon finish with a tart but salty watermelon after taste that is more tart than anything else. Terrapin has done a good job her adding watermelon to an already tropical beer, but the finish and aftertaste are a little too tart. So with that in mind, I give Watermelon Gose a B-. I do think you should try this one, and I am not saying that the finish and aftertaste kill the beer and make it undrinkable, no that is not it at all; it’s just a little more than I would have liked it to be that’s all. I would have this again but it’s not a go-to beer. I liked Terrapin Beer Co. Watermelon Gose. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Westbrook Brewing Co. Lemon Cucumber Gose

Westbrook Brewing Co. Lemon Cucumber Gose, 4% ABV is yet another variation on their delicious Gose and is brewed down in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. Lemon Cucumber Gose pours a light to medium gold color with a one finger fizzy with a a head that gives you tart vegetal aromas with some nice spicy citrus notes. Flavor is good with a big quick punch of cucumber up front with a nice spiced, salted lemon in the middle with more vegetal citrus on the back with a lemon cucumber finish and a tart aftertaste that lingers with bits of lemon all with a light mouthfeel. Westbrook Brewing Co. Lemon Cucumber Gose is very interesting and well balanced all around and well deserving of an A+, it’s probably the best variation of their Gose and the cucumber and lemon and balanced very well for a refreshing beer. This is a beer I recommend trying as this is very quickly becoming my new favorite beer. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Commonwealth Brewing CO. Speakeasy Hibiscus Passionfruit Pomegranate Gose Ale.

Commonwealth Brewing Co. in Virginia Beach Virginia brews Speakeasy Hibiscus Passionfruit Pomegranate Gose Ale, 5.2% ABV, which I purchased from Pop The Top Bottle Shop here in Charlotte, NC. Speakeasy pours a red color with a dark pink hue and a one finger white quickly fading head that gives off light sweet aromas that are fruity and a bit salted. Taste is sweet with a hint of a nice spicy note with hints of juicy fruits that come in the middle alongside the spicy note and stays on the back as the spice fades a bit, it’s all refreshing and easy drinking with a nice light salted fruity finish and a nice tropical flowery fruity aftertaste with a light mouthfeel. This beer is a good warm weather beer and very crushable. I give Commonwealth Brewing Co. Speakeasy Hibiscus Passionfruit Pomegranate Gose Ale an A-. I think that after three the flavor would start becoming a bit too much but it still a good Gose one that I would highly recommend, one that I will go right back too. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. Trip In The Woods Barrel-Aged Series Tequila Barrel Aged Orta-Vez

Picked up Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. Trip In The Woods Barrel-Age Series Tequila Barrel Age Orta-Vez, 6.4% ABV from the local Total Wine. Trip In The Woods Barrel-Age Series Tequila Barrel Age Orta-Vez is aged in Reposado Tequila oak barrels for six months then blended back with new fresh Orta-Vez, which is Spanish for one more. Trip In The Woods Barrel-Age Series Tequila Barrel Age Orta-Vez pours a yellow color with a one and a half finger white head that slowly fades into a big of halo lacing giving off tart aroma that are fruity with some slight strong alcoholic sour notes that take you into a tart and juicy flavor up front with that strong alcohol note in the middle with more tequila flavors it one back with a bit of a faint vanilla with a great juicy tart finish of nice tequila notes and an aftertaste of even more tequila with nice smoothness that really linger with hints of vanilla a faint sweet notes. Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. Trip In The Woods Barrel-Age Series Tequila Barrel Age Orta-Vez is one heck of a complex beer that’s is wonderful and well deserving of an A+. I thought that Trip In The Woods Barrel-Age Series Tequila Barrel Age Orta-Vez would be good because the base beer Orta-Vez is just as good, and by aging it in Tequila Barrels really brought out so much goodness. I highly recommend Trip In The Woods Barrel-Age Series Tequila Barrel Age Orta-Vez and would love to have this again, but it is a bit expensive at 22 dollars but it sure tasted like it was worth the price. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Captain Lawrence Brewing Company Tropigose Gose Style Ale

Captain Lawrence Brewing Company Tropigose Gose Style Ale, 4.5% ABV is another beer in my recent mixed six pack from Whole Foods and is brewed with passion fruit and guava. This Captain Lawrence Brewing company from Elmsford New York pours a Golden color with a two and a quarter white head that fades into a nice halo giving off tart tropical fruit notes with a slight bit of sour to it that take you down to a flavor or tart tropical fruits such as passion fruits front with a little melon in the middle that are nicely tart with hints of sour notes with a nice tart passion fruit finish and a nice tart fruited aftertaste that lingers with a hint of sour fruit with a light mouthfeel. Captain Lawrence Brewing Company Tropigose is a good beer but not enough passion fruit nor is they any trace of guava fruit, if you put that on the can then I think there should be enough to make it so, and I give this beer a B-. It not a bad beer for a Gose style ale but it just misses the amount of fruit flavor. It needs just enough to let you know its in there and yes I recommend Captain Lawrence Brewing Company Tropigose. It’s good otherwise! Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Stillwater Artisanal Levadura Oaxacan-Style Gose

Stillwater Artisanal Levandura Oaxacan-Style Gose, 4.6% I picked up from Pop the Top Craft Beer Shop here in Charlotte. Stillwater Artisanal from Baltimore Maryland and Brooklyn New York, a gypsy brewer (doesn’t have their own physical brewery) and started and owned by a former DJ/Producer brews Levandura, which is Spanish for yeast, with salt, agave, & lime. Stillwater Artisanal Levandura Oaxacan-Style Gose is a refreshingly tasty beer that is an A+ and one that I highly recommend and will be going back for more. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!
