Founders Brewing Barrel Aged Más Agave

I was down in South Carolina where they have an ACTUAL liquor store and I saw Founders Brewing Barrel-Aged Más Agave, 10% ABV. I picked up a four-pack of the lime variant. Más Agave is an imperial lime Gose beer aged in Tequila barrels. This beer pours a deep rich orange with a two-finger fast dissolving white head. It gives off sweet & tart aromas of lime citrus fruit with a strong alcoholic note. Taste is a bit similar to the way its aroma hits. You’ll find a bit of a tart & sweet lime with a boozy tequila barrel and hints of citrus lime. This beer doesn’t taste like it’s 10% but not far off. The mouthfeel is on the higher side of a medium feel. Más Agave finishes with a boozy citrus lime tartness and has a tart alcoholic limey aftertaste. This is much like a margarita but in beer from and only the second time I’ve had a beer like this, the first being Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. Trip into the Woods Otra Vez. Which I think is better than Founders Brewing Barrel-Aged Más Agave, which I B. It has a good tart fruity flavor but the barrel brings out the boozy alcohol that doesn’t make you want to have more that one and a half of these. But I do recommend trying Founders Brewing Barrel-Aged Más Agave. Please stay safe and enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Martin House Brewing Company Best Maid Sour Pickle Beer

Martin House Brewing Company Best Maid Sour Pickle Beer, 4.7% ABV is the other beer I purchased in Dallas, Texas, at the liquor store. This beer sour Gose brewed with Best Maid Pickle juice. I picked up a six-pack of this because I love pickles. So if you do not like pickles then, this beer isn’t for you. Best Maid Sour Pickle Beer pours a light merry yellow, light green with a one and a half finger white head. The aroma is tart and sour with dill pickle bitterness. Taste is juicy, tart, sour, bitter, with dill pickle notes and the faintest of salt. This beer has a sour juicy pickle finish and aftertaste that draws you back for another sip. That is if you like pickles, with a light mouthfeel. I enjoyed Martin House Brewing Company Best Maid Sour Pickle Beer quite a bit. I also think that after two, you will not be looking for a third. The flavor gets to be a bit intense at that point, but still a good beer. I give Martin House Brewing Company Best Maid Sour Pickle Beer an A. If you love pickles, then this is the beer for you! NoDa Brewing Company Guava Gose Beer

This beverage is NoDa Brewing Company Guava Gose Beer, 4% ABV, which is locally brewed here in Charlotte, North Carolina. This Gose is a kettled sour (they let beer sour in a kettle or mash tun) that is brewed with sea salt and fermented with pink guava. This Gose beer pours a golden color that is faintly cloudy with a one and a quarter finger white head. The aroma is yes fruity with tropical notes of guava, tartness, and sour notes. Guava Gose has a tropical tart/sour guava flavor to it with a bit of a salted not that is light at best. The beer has a light tart mouthfeel that isn’t overly tart, just enough to let you know that it is tart. Guava Gose finishes tart with little tropical sour notes and an aftertaste that is a slightly less tropical fruit and more of a salty sourness. Now the best and easiest way to describe a Gose beer is to liken it to a margarita but only slightly so. NoDa Brewing Company Guava Gose Beer is good and is a B. I have had some that are better than this, Westbrook Brewing Co. Gose is a good example, but I will say that there are very few that are better than NoDa Brewing Company Guava Gose Beer. I’d have this again, and yes you should too! NoDa Brewing Company Gose Pink Or Go Home!

Brewed locally in Charlotte, North Carolina, NoDa Brewing Company Gose Pink or Go Home!, 3.8, a Raspberry and Pink Himalayan Sea Salt Gose. This Gose style beer that benefits Project Pink that helps support and fight breast Cancer alongside Charlotte Radiology with mobile screenings. Gose Pink or Go Home pours red-like color with a two-finger white steady head. The aroma is tropical, raspberry salted with some sweetness. The taste is similar to its aroma with guava, raspberry sweetness, a bit of tartness with a slated flavor. Gose Pink or Go Home finishes tart, fruity with light salty, and a tart aftertaste. It has a nice light mouthfeel. Overall I found NoDa Brewing Company Gose Pink or Go Home! to be a little above average. I give it a C+ grade. This Gose is not bad, have had better examples of a Gose beer. The salted notes with a little lackluster, the raspberry was a bit overpowering but not terrible. If I had this to drink, I wouldn’t say no. Please stay safe and enjoy responsibly!

Westbrook Brewing Co.Breaded Break-In

I love being in a place where you can find different and local beers that I can’t find at home. That is always fun. I found this, Westbrook Brewing Co. Breaded Break-In, 6.6% ABV. This beer is similar to they’re Gose but Breaded Break-In is brewed with more grain and a bunch of Sorachi Ace hops as well as coriander. Breaded Break-In pours a yellow-orange cloudy color with a three-finger fleecy white head that slowly dissipates into some lacing but not much. The aroma is big with lemony notes and very faint lemon hops smell. The taste is very tart and lemony, as the aroma would suggest. There is the salty flavor that you would get from the Gose but is overshadowed by the intense lemon flavor. It’s boarding on to much lemon flavor, but it’s enjoyable. The mouthfeel is medium with a tart refreshing finish and leads into a nice tart lemon finish that lingers leaving you smacking your lips. This Breaded Break-In from Westbrook Brewing Co. gets and A. I loved how tart it was and that the salty flavor notes we subdued by the lemon, and how refreshing it is despite being so lemony tart. I highly recommend that you try this Westbrook Breaded Break-In. I think you will! Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

NoDa Brewing Company Blood Orange Gose Beer

Please support your local brewers and beer shops, I purchased NoDa Brewing Blood Orange Gose Beer, 5% ABV from Pop The Top Craft Beer Shop located in Charlotte, North Carolina. Blood Orange Gose is German Style wheat with German Pilsner grain, local wheat malt, and blood orange puree. Blood Orange Gose pours a deeper golden color with a one and a half finger white head that is slightly quicker to fade into itself giving off tart blood orange notes with some light sour notes as well. Taste is tart with nice citrus blood orange with a tart sour note that has a bit of dryness to it with a nice light salty note that comes to a nice tart blood orange finish with a nice light salty-sour/tart citrusy aftertaste with a light refreshing mouthfeel. This is more of a fruity forward beer, and you get a light amount of the Gose aspect of the beer. I think that it isn’t a terrible beer, I give NoDa Brewing Blood Orange Gose Beer a B+. The addition of blood oranges to this Gose is quite good, and refreshing but it does cover up the base beer a bit and that’s holding it back just a little. Throwback Thursday: Westbrook Brewing Co. Gosé

A German-style beer that once was nearly extinct is making a comeback. Gose (pronounced “goes-uh”) is a wheat beer brewed with 50-60 wheat coriander and sea salt. This style is originally from Leipzig Germany. But this can of Westbrook Brewing Co. Gose 4% ABV, doesn’t come from that far away, no it comes from Mt. Pleasant South Carolina east of Charleston. This is another fine beer from Brewpublik (www.brewbpulik.com). Gose pours a bright hazy yellow color with a two and a half finger bright clean white fluffy head that somewhat slow to fade and does leave behind nice whips of lacing. I found some little amounts of light through the glass with average amounts of carbonation bubbles. The aroma is similar to a lemon but with a salty kick. Taste is pretty sharp with a slightly bitter sour lemon upfront than towards the back or your taste buds it gets salty and the bitterness/sour really kicks in. But it’s refreshingly sour. I didn’t get much of any coriander in the taste. I think it’s underneath the big sour salty flavors. This Westbrook Gose finishes sour with a nice salty note that leaves a refreshing lemon-like aftertaste that sticks with you for a little bit. I really enjoyed this Gose a lot it’s an A+. I can see why the Gose style is making a comeback. After drinking this I find it so interesting that sour wheat beer with sea salt could be as refreshingly delicious. But yet it is very much so. Everything going on in this beer works so well together.  I highly recommend trying Westbrook Brewing Co. Gose. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Anderson Valley Brewing Company Blood Orange Gose

I haven’t had a Gose style beer in a while until I came across Anderson Valley Brewing Company Blood Orange Gose, 4.2% ABV while shopping at Total Wine. Blood Orange Gose pours a yellow gold color with one-finger quick fading white head that gives off sour citrus blood orange aroma with a little salty note that has a faintest sweet scent to it. Flavor somewhat follows the aroma with a salted sour citrus fruit flavor of blood orange that has a nice sweet and sour finish with a mild salt note that comes to a sour citrus aftertaste with a light mouthfeel. I am a big blood orange fan and I find this to be one good beer that is easy to drink. I think Anderson Valley Brewing Company Blood Orange Gose is an A+. The flavor is refreshing and light with a good amount of salty sourness that you should try. Please enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Mikkeller Brewing Aloha Fridays Gose-Style Ale

Mikkeller Brewing, Aloha Fridays Gose-Style Ale, 5.9%, brewed in San Diego California with Passionfruit, Tangerine, Pineapple & Hibiscus. Aloha Fridays pours light cherry red with a one and a half finger head with somewhat good retention, that gives off tropical tart fruity aromas of tangerine and pineapple. You get tartness up on the front of the tongue with a bit of a salted flavor with lots of tropical fruit flavor notes like lots of passionfruit l, pineapple, and tangerine but not really any hibiscus. Aloha Fridays finishes with a slightly tart tropical flavor with a tropical fruit aftertaste with a slight sour note on the very end with a light mouthfeel. Mikkeller Brewing, Aloha Fridays Gose-Style Ale sounds like it’s an interesting take on a Gose-Style Ale and it sort of starts out that way then just becomes an average tart fruited beer, and I give Mikkeller Brewing, Aloha Fridays Gose-Style Ale a C+. And this wouldn’t be something I would rush back to try but if it’s around I might have it. Please enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Commonwealth Brewing Company Limoncello

One of my favorite liquors, Limoncello Italian lemon-flavored alcohol, and the locals sometimes home make it. This. Commonwealth Brewing Company Limoncello, 3.9% ABV, brewed in Virginia Beach, Virginia is a Gosé style ale brewed with Lemon Beebrush, Lemon Balam, Lemon Zest and Lactose. Lemoncello is Commonwealth Brewings interpretation of Italian Limoncello. Limoncello pours a yellow color with a two-finger white head that fades steadily and has sweet lemon aroma with a pinch of saltiness to it. The flavor is not as I expected with a nice semi yet sweet lemon at the front with a little salt in the middle of the mouth with a little twinge of bitterness at the back, with a smooth finish of sweet/semi-salted lemon and a slight tartness that has a lemon balm and slightly sweet aftertaste with a light refreshing mouthfeel. The Gose aspect of Limoncello is muted and sometimes nonexistent, but overall Commonwealth Brewing Company Limoncello is a C+, a little above average but I have had better Gosé Ales and a better Lemoncello Style beer. Deep River Brewing Limoncello is a better Lemoncello beer. Commonwealth Brewing Company Limoncello is not the worst but it’s interesting enough for a try! Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!
