Wiseman Brewing Angelo’s Pils Italian Style Pilsner

I’ve had Angelo’s Pils twice now. I first had it on tap at Pasta and Provisions Park Road, here in Charlotte, NC, and I just picked up a four-pack at the Providence Road location. This Italian Style Pilsner is 5.2% ABV by Wiseman Brewing in Winston-Salem, NC. This Pilsner is a traditional Pilsner base, dry-hopped with Saphir and Spalter Select hops. The beer’s name is from the Angelo Family (from Como, Italy), who built the building long ago. They ran a Wholesale company out of that building for decades. Now it is the Wiseman Brewing Facility. This Pilsner pours light golden yellow with a two-finger white head. The head fades down to one finger and stays for a while. The aroma is light, sweet, fruity, and has light malt notes. The beer’s flavor is bittersweet and has a light apple flavor. The beer is also crisp with herbal flavors. This Pilsner finishes malty. That malt flavor then grows and lingers on the tongue. The aftertaste is malty. The finish and aftertaste really make this a delicious Italian-style Pilsner. I give Angelo’s Italian-style Pils a B+. I recommend you try this Pilsner. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

king Canary Brewing Co. Under The Toucan Sun Italian Pilsner

I’ve been seeing more and more Italian Pilsners around. Italian Pilsners are gaining popularity, and perhaps that is because the majority of the craft beer industry has focused on IPAs. Italian Pilsners are dry-hopped pilsners that use German noble hops. These hops aren’t very bitter, but when they are dry-hopped, they release a small amount of hop bitterness. This style originated in Italy. Well, Under The Toucan Sun didn’t originate in Italy, but in Mooresville, North Carolina, from King Canary Brewing Co (www.kingcanarybrewing.com). This beer is 5.1% ABV and made with Adriatic Pilsner Malt and a blend of noble and American hops. I bought this beer from Reid’s Fine Foods at Southpark Mall (www.reids.com). This beer pours bright yellow with a two-finger white head. The aroma is a little bitter, with crisp and floral notes. The flavor has a lemon-like note, with some bitterness. It is crisp, clean, and herbal, too. This Pilsner finishes with some bitterness, and it has a floral, herbal, and light lemon aftertaste. This beer is good, but it is a little more bitter than some Italian Pilsners. This beer was still good, and it’s a B-. Yes, you should be drinking this Italian Pilsner. I recommend it! Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Burial Beer Co. Our Hearts of Ruin Dry-Hopped Pilsner

This Burial Beer Co. (https://burialbeer.com/?srsltid=AfmBOoqJOrM9CbYCxpAdNizGO9TiC4ofYyJeIzBK9laNMvKWXqztqEa9) beer is a dry-hopped pilsner called Our Hearts of Ruin. It is 5% ABV, mashed with Pilsner malt, and double-dry hopped with new harvest Motueka and Hallertau Blanc hops. Burial says this is a west-coast-inspired lager. This beer pours golden yellow with a three-finger head that leaves thick lacing behind. The aroma is slightly hoppy and crisp. It has a lemon and vegetable scent as well. The flavor is crips and somewhat hoppy with a sweet wine like taste. The mouthfeel is light with this beer. This beer has a dry finish that is a little hoppy. The aftertaste is also dry, but the sweet wine note is gone. This is a good beer, A from me. The hops slightly overpower the malt of this pilsner. But that does not hold this beer back that much. It is a delicious beer that is worth trying. I recommend it. You can get this at (https://www.southernspirits.com) and Total Wine (https://www.totalwine.com). Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Lenny Boy Brewing Co. Spaghetti Handshake Italian Style Pilsner

This Italian-style Pilsner Spaghetti Handshake is from Lenny Boy Brewing Co. in Charlotte, North Carolina. This beer is 5.4%, dry-hopped with Hallertau Blanc and Hallertau Mittelfruh hops. This pilsner pours bright yellow with a one-and-a-half fizzy/bubbly white head. The aroma is lemony, crisp, and light. The flavor is lemon and crisp, and it has a light body with a light twinge of bitter hops. This has a light feel in the mouth. This beer finishes with crisp lemon. This is good, but I have had better Italian pilsners, like Dissolver Cold Caprese Pizza and Legion Brewing Sanctified. This is a C+, better than average. The lemon note takes away from the crispness. That lemon flavor is a bit on the strong side. I would recommend this beer; it was good, but I won’t rush back to this. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Legion Brewing Company Sanctified Italian Pils

I love Italian Pilsners. I have had a few that are slightly different for a Pilsner. They generally use German Noble Hops. This one, Sanctified, is from Legion Brewing Company in Charlotte, North Carolina. This beer is 5%, dry-hopped once with Sapphire and Lorien hops in a bright tank and uses traditional German hops. This beer is relatively new for Legion. This Pils pours yellow with a one-finger white head. The aroma has light, bitter notes and light sweetness. The flavor is soft, malted, hoppy, lemon, floral, and light-bodied. This beer has a light mouthfeel. Then this pilsner finishes lightly bittersweet, with a light floral/lemon aftertaste that is not around long. This is a good Italian Pilsner, A- from me. I think it shouldn’t be missed. It has a uniquely delicious and refreshing taste. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Fatty’s Beer Works High Style Italian Pilsner

This High Style Italian Pilsner beer is from Fatty’s Beer Works in Charleston, South Carolina. This beer is made with Pilsner Malt, and Hallertau Mittelfrüh (the Kaiser of German hops). This beer is dry-hopped with Tettnang hops. This beer is 5% ABV. Fatty’s Beer Works is named after the brewery’s founder’s college nickname given to him by his fraternity brothers at Clemson University. This beer pours a golden color with a bright white two-and-quarter-finger head. The aroma is light hop note, lemon/white grape, and bread crust. The flavor is white grape, bread crust, light bittering notes (towards the back of the tongue), and tartness. This beer feels light on the pallet. This pilsner finishes with a light bitter note and some slight fruity flavor. The aftertaste is faintly tart and clean. This is a beer is one that I could go right back to over and over. I give High Style an A+. It should not be missed, I highly recommend this beer from Fatty’s Beer Work. It has an overall clean and balanced flavor and it is delicious. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Dssolver Brewing & Hoofhearted Brewing Cold Caprese Pizza Italian-Style Pilsner

Today’s beer is Cold Caprese Pizza Italian-Style Pilsner. This beer is a 5.1% ABV collaboration between Dssolver Brewing in Asheville, North Carolina, and Hoofhearted Brewing in Marengo, Ohio. This beer has Riverbend Pilsner Malt, Hallertauer, Mittelffuh, and Pacifica hops. This Pilsner pours a yellow color with a two-finger fizzy white head. The aroma is soft, dry, hoppy, and sweet. The flavor is hoppy, sweet, light, and dry. There are some lightly breaded notes. The mouthfeel is bright. Then this Italian-style Pilsner finishes with a light, hoppy, and dry flavor. Then you get an aftertaste of dry and light bitterness. This is a good beer that is on the hoppy side for most Pilsners. That is a characteristic of an Italian Pilsner. This beer was good, and it’s a B+ from me. The dry and bitter flavors don’t combine well. That’s keeping this beer at a B+. It’s good otherwise, and I would suggest you try Cold Caprese Pizza Italian-Style Pilsner. Please stay safe, be kind to everyone, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!
