Brouwerij Van Steenberge Gulden Draak Imperial Stout

This beer is another out of the Brouwerij VanSteenberge mixed six-pack. This particular beer is Gulden Drank Imperial Stout, 12% ABV. This beer is a Belgian Imperial Stout. This stout pours a deep dark brown color that is nearly black. It also has a three-finger creamy beige head. Then the head slowly fades. The aroma is sweet with some licorice. There is a bitter-roasted scent and a faint coffee-like note. This big stout doesn’t smell like it’s 12% strong. The taste is also sweet and licorice-tasting. This beer has light bitterness, coffee-like flavors, and slight roasted malt. The mouthfeel is on the lighter side of fullness. Then it finishes with bitterness. It has a hint of a sweet note. Then you get a bittersweet aftertaste that starts off coffee/licorice-like. It’s more of a bittersweetness. This beer is a good bet that I give an A. Allagash Brewing Company North Sky Stout

Allagash Brewing Company North Sky Stout, 7.5% AVB, and is brewed in Portland, Maine, as a Belgian-Style Stout. This stout brewed with Allagash 2-Row Malted Barley Blend, Local Pale Malt, Local Oats, Torrified Wheat, Chocolate Malt, Roasted Barley, Midnight Wheat grains, Northern Brewer, Cascade hops, and Belgian Abbey-Style yeast. North Sky pours a rich black color with a three-finger beige head with a big ole bubble in it and is very foamy. The Aroma of North Sky is roasted, sweet with light fruity notes (semi-darkish fruits), and some malty scented notes. North Sky has a nice roast flavor that slowly hits the tastebuds with some nice malted sweet notes and light fruit notes with a medium to barely full mouthfeel is not as thick as some others and makes it easy to drink. North Sky has a roasted malt finish and an aftertaste of roasted notes with a faint hit of that fruit and some sweet notes. Allagash Brewing Company North Sky Stout was a bit of a surprise. I was not expecting it to be as non-heavy from a stout (light as in mouthfeel). It has good Belgian stout qualities to it and has good flavor overall, giving Allagash Brewing Company North Sky Stout an A., and something I think you should give a try! Allagash Brewing Company Black Belgian-style Stout

Allagash Brewing Company Black Belgian-style Stout, 7.5% ABV purchased from my local Total Wine is from Portland Main with 2-Row Malted Barley blend, Black malt, Oats, Torrified Wheat, Chocolate Malt, and roasted barley with Northern Brewer and Glacier hops, dark caramelized Belgian candy syrup and Belgian Pal yeast. Allagash Black pours black with a thin one and a half beige head giving off a coffee aroma with chocolate roasted malts that lead to a flavor of sweet roasted coffee with chocolate malty notes with a slight bit roasted coco hitting the back with a roasted coco finish and slightly lingering aftertaste of chocolate roasted malts with a slightly full mouthfeel. Allagash Brewing Company Black Belgian-style Stout is not such a heavy beer it leans more on the lighter side and gets a B+. It has a great balance of flavors between the chocolate, the coffee, and the roasted notes. Allagash Brewing Company Black Belgian-style Stout is one that is worth trying and on that, I would love to have again. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!
