Fonta Flora Brewing X Half Acre Beer Co. Wolf Spit Baltic-style Porter

Wolf Spit is this collaborative beer from Fonta Flora in Nebo, North Carolina, and Half Acre in Chicago, Illinois. Wolf Spit is a Baltic-style Porter made with Shagbark Hickory wood. This Porter is 8.5% ABV. This Shagbark wood is commonly found in the eastern United States. This beer pours a black color with a dark two-finger beige/brown head. The head is slow to fade. The aroma is malty, earthy, bitter, and smoky. The flavor is again earth, malty, bittersweet, and smoky on the back of the tongue/mouth. This beer is full feeling in the mouth. The finish is smoky and slightly bitter with faint roasted notes. The aftertaste is less smoky. This beer is not like a campfire smoke. Then you get some baking chocolate flavor to the aftertaste. This beer is not terrible. This beer is a B-. I found the smoky and earthy flavors to clash a bit. This beer is good. I might go back to Wolf Spit. Please stay safe, be kind to each other, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Olde Mecklenburg Brewery Fat Boy Baltic Porter

Fat Boy Baltic Porter has been in the back of the beer refrigerator for a while now. I bought this in Olde Mecklenburg Brewery’s Christmas mixed twelve-pack. It was the last beer of that pack. This porter is 8.3% ABV. This porter is not a year-round beer. It’s around between fall and mid-winter time. This porter pours black with a two-finger steady tan head. The aroma is sweet, chocolatey, malty, dark, and rich. The flavor is sweet, toffee, caramel, chocolates, and malty. There is a light taste of raisins. The mouthfeel is full but not overly full. Then this porter comes to a nice sweet malted finish. Then you get an aftertaste of roasted chocolate, toffee, and light raisins. This beer was still good for sitting in the refrigerator for so long. Fat Boy Baltic Porter is an A+. I recommend you try it. This dark beer is fantastic and delicious. Please stay safe, be kind to everyone, and remember to enjoy responsibly! Cheers!

Burial Beer Co. Ulfberht Baltic Porter with Juniper

I like the Burial Beer Co, beers so while I was shopping at Pop the Top Bottle Shop I picked up Burial Beer Co. Ulfberht Baltic Porter with Juniper, 7.8%, brewed with German and British malts, then fermented with Juniper, and traditionally lagers. Ulfberht Baltic Porter pours a jet black oil color with a one and a quarter finger beige head that does leave behind some spotty lacing with aromas of Chocolate sweetness and roasted malts with a faint berry note. The taste is not to far off form the nose of Ulfberht Baltic Porter, there is the roasted sweet chocolate flavor with a faint minty beery on the back of the tongue that comes to a nice sweet roasted finish with an chocolate juniper berry aftertaste with a medium/full. This hits the make on how I feel about Burial Beers, Burial Beer Co. Ulfberht Baltic Porter with Juniper is definitely a A+. I found it to be just the right mouthfeel and well brewed and balanced Baltic Porter, one that highly recommend and one will be back too. Cheers! Please enjoy responsibly!

Catawba Brewing Co. Deep State Baltic Porter

IMG_5522

I’ve not had much from Catawba Brewing Co, but I’ve heard good things about them. This Catawba Brewing Co. Deep State Baltic Porter, 7.2% ABV which came via Brewpublik is one of a very few I’ve had. Deep State Baltic Porter pours a deep mahogany brown with light edges and a two finger beige head that falls quickly into itself and then into a little beige halo that wafts sweet roasted malts with a lightness of molasses notes to you with flavors of sweet rich roasted malts with a lightness and slight molasses raisin, toffee and a faint fig note that finishes smoothly with a slight bitter molasses like note and with an aftertaste of a roasted and a semi-sweet bitter note, and a light almost medium mouthfeel. I wasn’t expecting Deep State Baltic Porter to be as light as it was which is good, it’s an easier to drink Baltic Porter, it along the lines of a black lager. But some of the initial flavors feel a bit flat but as a whole, this beer is not bad, I say a B here. I would’ve like to have more roast and sweetness but not too much. But that is my only complaint towards Catawba Brewing Co. Deep State Baltic Porter and I would recommend this and would have this again. Cheers Please enjoy responsibly!
