Hitachino Nest Red Rice Ale

Produced by Kiuchi Brewery under Hitachino Nest is Red Rice Ale. This beer is 7% ABV with Lager malts, Chinook hops, and adjuncts such as red rice and flaked barley. This beer is made in Naka-shi Ibaraki, Japan. I don’t think I’ve ever had or seen a red rice ale. This beer pours a smoky pink color with no head. The head disappears as soon as the beer is poured. The aroma is fruity, malty, with some light sweetness. The flavor is fruity with strawberry sweetness, malt flavors, and light bitterness. The mouthfeel is smooth and light. This beer has some resemblance to a sour, but it is lighter. This ale finishes semi-sweet with bits of fruity flavors. The aftertaste is bitter-sweet. I didn’t find Red Rice Ale from Hitachino Nest to be good. I give this beer a D+. Not something I would recommend. The malts and the fruity flavors clashed, giving this an off taste. I like some other beers Hitachino Nest produces, like the white ale. Please stay safe, be kind to each other and remember to enjoy responsibility! Cheers!
